For what it is worth, people call Musk a billionaire — but he does not have a billion dollars sitting in a bank vault. What he has are shares of various companies. Those shares represent control of those companies. If you tax those shares away from them, some half-wit bureaucrat like Elizabeth Warren or AOC will then have control of the company — and it won’t do nearly as well.
We all like to bash incompetent CEOs. I know I do. That said, there are some CEOs that are worth whatever they were paid and then some. Musk comes to mind. Without him, electric vehicles would be at least 20 years behind where they are today; Tesla, SpaceX, and Boring would not exist.
Steve Jobs is another one. Without Jobs, Apple would no longer exist.
If Elon decides to rest on his laurels and no longer work, he’s still has already earned his billions.
No. Millionaire politicians are the ones that should have to justify every dime they own or control. And since they are on the public dole — there should be prison or execution for corruption. Singapore has done an excellent job of stiff penalties for corruption — and they are less corrupt than the US is.
In agreement with everyone else. Fundamentally nobody has a right to anyone else’s life’s work and life’s worth of decisions. We get twit-twats like AOC saying nobody should be allowed to be a billionaire. Every penny over a billion goes directly to the Feds, thereby reducing anyone’s desire to help companies grow by investing in them. Then as the Federal Reserve devalues currency every year (inflation) that amount becomes worth less and less.
I don’t worry about billionaires, unless they made their billions while in Congress. I equate those folks with Cartels, and organized crime. They need to list the names of family members they used to launder their money.
Sorry, no. That’s straight-up communism.
@RJ – Agreed
Fuck that!
I’m there with RJ.
