  1. as a old grunt, you can never have enough ammo. or magazines ! people tend to run ‘light” on magazines. not sure why, but they do. I try to have or keep 10 magazines for each handgun. this can get pricey !
and at least 12 or more for each rifle like above.
Bereli has some good deals on handgun magazines, if you buy a 5 or 10 pack.
I like MecGar magazines myself. they work very well and I can save up and get a 10 pack easy. all of my AR platforms use C-products defense magazines in stainless steel , again, they work very well and are worth it.
another thing I have found worthwhile to have a “range” bag with each rifle.
Midway has some for 20-25 bucks. they hold 6 magazines and I keep a blow-out kit with each one. water bottle, couple of handgun magazines. stuff like that.
I have one bag setup for my AR 10. 6 magazines of 20 rounds and 4 magazines of Match ammo in 10 round ones. 4 magazines for my Sig 220 in 45acp.
blow-out kit and water bottle. 2 packs of smokes with spare lighter- zippo.
small fuel bottle and spare flints. flashlight, coffee in tea bags (folgers)
couple of candy bars. little things you may want to have when things go to shit.
sometimes, it is the little things after all.

    • almost forgot. TP ! always keep a end of roll, like 1/4 or so.
fold flat and store in a Ziploc bag ! a must have item. hope you never need it, but. if you do, it is much better to have than not.
in the old days, kept mine in my left hand pocket of my field pants
inside a old bread bag or two. depends on the weather, wet-2 bags
dry, one. plus a small flashlight. and a good old Swiss army knife.
mine is missing one red handle side. but I owned it for over 45 years now at least. best 25 bucks I ever spent.

      • Support Midway they are a huge supporter of youth programs with their foundation creations in my state. Word from a 30 year wildlife department employe. Probably your state as well, get on board

          • mom taught me that many years ago.
“two is one and one is none” mom was big on having backup to her backups. she was also on her high school shooting team before ww2.
she used to outshoot dad all the time.
maybe not with a shotgun, but with a pistol or
rifle, yeah. she showed us how to shoot as kids
not dad. I don’t know who got her 38 Smith
either, 4 inch barrel. old school. but she did keep 4 boxes of ammo for it at all times at home. that I do remember. wadcutters I think they where.

            • Wadcutters hit way above their pay grade.Cutting a clean hole (that bled) as opposed to a round nose bullet that pushed tissue out of the way, that then moves back into place and swells shut to restrict bleeding is bad. The old standard 158 gr lead round nose was called “the widow maker” because it turned the shooter’s wife into a widow. They were/are very poor incapacitaters.
              Not a word smith.

              • mom liked them because they where accurate. and they tend to stay with a person. she liked the fact that she could put them where she wanted too all the time. I think one of my sisters grabbed her old Smith. it was a
good old gun. well kept too.
mom ‘s gun was always clean and loaded in her sewing room.
nothing fancy. last time she went to the range, she was still putting them in the “black” as she used to say.
standard 25 yard slow pistol target. it was 1998 I think,,,

  2. A process indeed. May have mentioned here that I served in West Germany during the Cold War. I am now a Kalifornia expat living in Texas. Got clue early on, started processing back when I could get a case of 5.56 ball for 13.5 cents a round, delivered.

For my ‘minute man’ set up, I use a Vietnam era cloth bandoleer with a couple of loaded mags hung next to my weapon. It’s for stepping out on the porch RIGHT NOW with more than just the magazine in the weapon.

  3. Always strip your enemy of everything useful, cache it and move through. Re-supply on your terms later.

    • That’s right Magoo, if you’re incapacitated, we’re splitting up yer good shit. Avoid incoming ballistic objects of all types, you’ll be glad you did.

  4. Everybody should have a long gun, a shotgun, and at least two pistols. I prefer wheel guns as they are foolproof, don’t jam and are pretty darn safe. Mine are .357 and .38 specials.
    I absolutely LOVE my GP100…
