Had the original sweet sixteen. It was a rough go though… as I only “earned” fifty cents a week back then. Doggone Hot Wheels were 99 cents each… so you would _THINK_ I could afford to buy one every other week right? NO. NJ sales tax was 5 percent….
I learned to hate taxes at a very young age as a result.
Still have a bucket full of the all metal ones. Legos? I have a bucket full of those plus the table and 2 chairs for creating Lego worlds. Little kids that come to my house have something to do besides drive the adults crazy.
I had Hot Wheels Sizzlers.
Man I loved those things.
I did.
You were a deprived child Cederq.
I was also a Matchbox snob. I had a sheet of plywood in the barn with my town drawn out on it. When I got duplicates from grown-up or friends I would repaint the numbers so I would not have two school buses, police cars with the same number.
Still have my 32 Ford Hot Rod HW car, always wanted the real thing, never found one to restore. 70 cycles in, don’t think I’m going to make it.
My favorite was John Milners Duece Coupe in American Graffiti it was piss yellow according to that liberal asshole piss poor pilot Bob Falfa
I have that car, Milner’s Deuce from Franklin Mint… My brother sez when I dies, he gets it!
Well uck u then since I know of it. Terry the Toad has my back and as I steal Ford Fairlanes line about the blond in the T Bird, “I fucked her”
Matchbox??? I didn’t realize that you were gay.
Hahaha
Hot Wheels were way better…and not gay.
(Not that theirs anything wrong with that. What you do in the privacy of your own home is nobody elses business.)
Careful there, Bryce. Ask Bear Claw how long he was banned from BNs… for calling me something similar.
Matchbox by Lensley for me as well
Lesney. I still have my Matchbox cars from 1957 and have the original boxes…
You should see the Matchbox stuff I have of the Royal Coach, Coldstream Guards, Hussars, and a few mounted figurines. Don’t know what they are worth, don’t plan to sell ’em either. Still in the original boxes too.
Igor, can u see my dust cloud?
Not !
As an only child, I played with these until the wheels literally fell off. I recognize nearly all of them…but in different olors.
Had both Matchbox, and HotWheels cars, I think I had the complete Matchbox line at one time. My brother and I played with them, .our neighbor had the same. He played with our toys, his were put up, “they might be worth something. Someday.”
Looking back, he probably cleaned up selling the old toys in unused condition. Won’t even start with the Tonka trucks. They have a huge demand, and bring amazing prices.
I had those too and would not let neighbor and cousin boys play with them, had Ertle, Tonka and my Matchbox, I was a damn selfish bastard back then… not much has changed.
Yeah, as a kid, it really didn’t click. Our toys were well used for their intended purpose. Once we were done with them, they were passed to friends and family that continued to have fun with them. Not just cars and trucks, Lego, hell we had a footlocker full of it. HO trains, slot cars, you name it.
It wasn’t until I had kids, and realized that the toys sold had no similarity to the toys we had as kids. Cheap junk abounded. Went looking for the old toys, and was shocked at the cost. Knew that I could not give my kids nearly the quality toys that I had when I was young. I was very lucky to have grown up when I did. Realize it more and more.
All of us Jim, sadly
Had a friend who bought any and all Matchbox and Hot Wheels whenever he found them. He had been collecting them for years and as soon as he died she held a giant yard sale and basically put $0.25 on almost all of his many collectible’s. Him and hubby loved yard sales, auctions especially estate sales. She sold the house and moved after the yard sale. Hated all of his “junk”.
In England it was Corgi for me, one of my favourites was the 60’s Morris Oxford, had a steering wheel on the roof connected to the front wheels so you learned how the back end cut in and how rear steering worked whilst reversing when still a tiny tot.
The other fave was the James Bond Aston Martin DB5, with working parts such as pop up bullet proof rear screen and front machine guns which appeared at the front at the touch of a button, i think it had the ejector seat and bad guy to get rid of but don’t quote me, a lifetime ago.
Don’t have any, they all got played with tiil the wheels fell off and any that were still around my own kids finshed off, whilst they might be worth serious money now i wonder what became of those kids who somehow kept them pristine in the original boxes, probably became lefty politicians.
