I’d slap me a contractor that put that shit in my house.

Number 1 and climbing higher!
The steps to nowhere, or the hideous art print or the weird candle sconce thing? It’s kind of hard to pick.
That’s be a double back hand.
All three.
Cat throne
Keeps from having to invest in a stair stepper
The contractor did them a favor.
What? Ya never seen a cat storage shelf?
Would be kinda cool if it swung out to reveal a set up 81mm mortar.
That’s a lot of fine finish carpentry. And for what??? I hope someone can better explain that mess.
“Tear it out, you boob, and do it RIGHT! And I’m NOT paying for it, either!”
I bet that’s for a cat.
At my daughter’s house, that is where you would leave your shoes. Dang she’s touchy about that. Maybe some potted plants? Decoy stairs to confuse a late night intruder? Hear that forehead smack the wall?
The stairs do run out into that space,, IDK how I would blend that in. Never seen anything like that.
You curl the step(s) around the corner, creating a bullnose set of steps. Carpenter’s an idiot.
Something to trip over in the dark.
I’ve seen something similar twice.
In old houses subdivided to be rentals which were returned to being single family dwellings.
They should have run the wall all the way to the bottom of the stair stringer and be done with it. A coat closet or set of shelves.
Builder hiding a mistake.
Ding, Ding, Ding! We have a winner!
But who’s mistake was it? Did the architect’s framing plan accidently step on his stair detail or did the contractor screw up the framing by misplacing a critical post?
Either way, the reason they finished it that way was because the oops was discovered too late to change the beam that that post is supporting without tearing out half the floor framing above. And if there’s another story above that? HOO BOY!
So, they either sold this “fix” to the homeowner (I would have enjoyed that conversation) or if it was a spec house, just figured this would fly without reducing their bottom line.
I thinks it is cool and I like it. Would be great for plants…..
I didn’t realize that I double posted. Oh well……
For the kids and grandkids singing Christmas Carol’s. Harmonizing across the generations. Like at Parochial School.
