  1. I’f from Pontotoc County, OK. The first time I heard this song, I thought he had met my family.

    • I have oil royalties from my great-grandfather’s place over by Frisco. Them are some deep wells.
And yeah, I thought they were talking about some of my relatives in Oklahoma and the southeastern corner of Kansas.

    • HH, I was born in pontotoc county. I have been to many of the places including the biker/strip bar in Baxter Springs. No lips or lingerie shop then though. Singer Dad is Larry McMurtry of Lonesome Dove fame.

    • People on here know I enjoy C & W music above most other genre of music, but even I really enjoyed the song and I have been enjoying listening to their other songs on yube tube.

      • He’s a great songwriter. Love his recorded music and still have several of his CD’s. Saw him live 20 years ago and he sucked in person. Some musicians are better live and some better on memorex.

  2. James’s father Larry wrote “Lonesome Dove”. James himself is in the mini series. He played the hunchback with the mule who found Gus crawling across the prairie way the hell up in Montana. Also, I’ve looked for the Pop Knife and Gun Shop in Tushka but I don’t think it’s there anymore. And in case you’re interested there’s also a Subway in the overpass over the Will Rogers Turnpike.

  3. I was making one of many, many trips from Kansas City to Houston over the past 25 years when I first heard this song, while driving through Eastern Oklahoma. I always avoid the interstate, so every place James McMurtry mentions is (or was) along my route. The song became an instant favorite.

  4. I like the music but if you look around his website you’ll find that he is a mentally deranged anti Trump libturd. F#%k him
