Not just “tariffs” but “reciprocal tariff”.
I was busy protesting on the 5th, sorry.
Tariffs are a tax on the people, period, dot. Rump has to do it to stop the American people from taking it in the ass when they keep buying the cheap Chinese shit.
And, boy, the Chinks are squealing like the pigs they are – as well as the Americans that are so far up the Chink asses they can’t see daylight.
the Chinese kept their money as low as possible for years. WHY?
simple to put other countries companies out of work.
why buy a South Bend lathe for 4 grand when you can get a chink one for less than half that ?
and now after 20-30 years of that shit. damn near every company than made machine tools is gone here.
same thing in Europe, they flooded the market with cheap shit and watch other companies go under. back in the 1970’s , one could go into a hardware store in Europe and find American made tools for sale there. like vise grips for one. people would spend more to get the American made ones BEFORE they bought the chink knock offs
by the 1990’s, wall street and CEO where getting the idea of making BIG bucks by screwing over their country here. add in the damn EPA assholes and the job was done. we don’t make anything to speak off, we stop mining iron and coal . we no longer make the BEST STEEL IN THE WORLD.
in short, by not protecting our own companies with Tariffs they have caused the rust belts here.
and the sad/funny part is that a lot of the clowns in DC still think we could fight a war like WW2 again today ? like how ? we no longer have the factories,
the skilled workforce or even any way of getting people up to speed on that little bit.
we might be able to get some of that back, but it will not be easy for a long while. lets start by bringing back shop class to teach kids how to use tools first.
most kids have no idea how to read a “mike” let alone use one right.
They pegged the Juan to the dollar as well for that.
So, the USA should CONTINUE to let countries screw us with THEIR protectionist tariffs and other barriers to free trade while we CONTINUE to sit idly by and do nothing to stop it after several generations? Woodrow Wilson screwed us in more ways than just having the 16th Amendment passed.
It’s not just China that has been screwing us. Try importing automobiles into Japan as a for instance. They impose an average 46% tariff on American goods and their inspection requirements for each and every car or truck is so costly as to be prohibitive to American made imports.
These people having a shit fit over tariffs apparently can’t think back to the first Trump administration which imposed tariffs on lots of goods, yet we had one of the greatest economic booms in the 40 years PRIOR.
Wall street’s reaction is likewise exactly the wrong move. Sure prices may rise on some things in the near term, however once American manufacturing restarts, the current decline will rebound at least double.
These countries crying about fairness in trade have been bending us over for DECADES while taking steps to not only tariff American products, but erecting other prohibitive trade barriers and laughing at us while they’re doing it. It’s about time an American politician did something about it.
The Chinese in particular have been screwing us since they were allowed into the WTO. They have NEVER followed the rules, yet accuse everyone else of cheating. One of the requirements to enter Chinese markets is the exporting firm MUST supply all of the engineering drawings for the product to the Chinese government. Guess what happens after that?
I hate it but that’s why rump has to do it. The people pay the price but the goobermint keeps the tariff money.
funny, was talking to my neighbor a while back and he used to rebuild machine tools that where later sold to the chinks.
there was a German company that made the bearings and they refused to give them the “prints” of their bearings.
so, if you ask me, it about time we started to protect what
we have from the damn chinks. now if we can only get the kids to starting thinking instead of feeling,,,
This is an excellent point. In order to do business in China, you have to have a Chinese partner company — and the Chinese government requires that you share everything needed to manufacture the product. Obviously, your Chinese partner almost instantly becomes your competition.
Kudos to the German company for not playing that game.
China is the fastest reverse engineering gun in the west, and they’re in the east.
back in the 1980’s it was Tawian (?) that was ripping us off bigtime.
think of Rockwell tools. they copied everything they made. known fact.
and sold them for less than half of what Rockwell was asking for the same item/tool. I think it was by 1985 or so, they got in bed with them. and CEO made even more money as factories closed down here in the states.
so, yeah. a lot of this is way past due if you ask me. I seen the shops and factories close down. a whole lot of machine tools where sold as scrap (?)
and guess where a lot of that “scrap” was sold too ? yeah. China bought it
or Japan did. so, wall street made big bucks selling us out as our cities died.
I grew up in Philly. back then it was a factory town. lots of companies making all sorts of “stuff”. people had good jobs. nice homes and cars. people took PRIDE
in what they had/made. by 1990. that was all gone.
the first engine I rebuilt had the machine work done at a local shop. drop off on Friday afternoon and done by Monday. the old guy running the shop even gave me a break on the price and tips on what to do to make it run better after I put it back together. try to find that kind of service today. not going to happen.
we might not get back to the living standards of the 1950-60’s, but we damn sure try too for the sake of our grandkids. and shop class is a good start for that.
small companies can grow into bigger ones in time. we have to get started on that or there will be nothing left of the country we grew up in.
One big case of Stockholm Syndrome occurring now. We have been getting screwed by other countries for years and the non-thinking are complaining about stopping it.
That is a good analogy, Stockholm Syndrome, what subtle, consistent and unrelenting propaganda accomplishes!
Every single person who voted for NAFTA and GATT 30-years ago should be burned at the stake if still living and if not exhumed and burned at the stake anyway.
I know a guy who worked for an American company who got in bed with the Chinese. He was over there on an inspection tour of the factory and noticed that the building looked a lot shorter on the inside than it did driving up to it. So, he walked around to the other end, went in an open door and found a mirror image factory building the same machines with a Chinese name plate and different color paint.
He said to his contact “What the HELL is all this” and the head Chink got all upset and said, “This side our side, that side your side, you go there now. You go NOW!” kinda hateful like. YOU. CAN. NOT. TRUST. THOSE. BASTARDS!
I know some other stories, too…….
Same thing happened to the company I worked for in the 1990s. We opened a factory in China, and it turns out the Chinese built a 2nd identical factory across town. Because we had to have a Chinese company as 51% owner of the joint venture… They began competing with us after 3 years and after 5 we closed the JV because it wasn’t profitable. Instead of generating $12M per day profit, it turned into a loss.
Not just “tariffs” but “reciprocal tariff”.
