What DMM get’s to view in the fall.

My favorite time of year up here, and we might get some snow this weekend. We’ve had elk bugling at night in the timber behind the house for a couple of weeks. The other night, I sat out on the back deck with my night scope and watched an old bull stumble along our back hill looking for trouble!

  1. BTDT, but now I live in Suburbia surrounded by people that think a paper cut is a major injury and crabgrass/dandelion are an infestation. I prefer Falcon 9/ Falcon Heavy and Starship launches, though.

    Can’t have both.

  2. That’s one hell of a nice view. While such scenery is extant in my AO, sans mountains, we are likely to have a very poor showing this year for fall color. It has been so damned dry the last couple of months that the trees are already dropping while the leaves are still green. Grass has been burned out a while now, since it was pointless to try and keep it watered with sprinklers. A lot of white tail deer here running around and causing car wrecks, just witnessed two near misses this week (both after dark) and saw one carcass at roadside.

    • Walmart has deer whistles in the auto section. All for the sum of $5.98 and you can be free of a hitting a deer, cat or dog. Went to Ins Co to pay my yearly plan. She gave me a receipt and a package of deer whistles. She said their claims for deer accidents were down with passing these out for the last year. Early morning a buck leading his pack running full out headed for fence to jump heard me and he wheeled around and lead everyone back the way they came. Seen at least 4 dogs do the same.

      • I just have a Rancher grill guard for the speed-beef-on-the-hoof.

I also have not hit any, as I drive it like I own it and pay fucking attention to the road.

        • I’ve not hit one yet. Have had close calls, and just this last week was on a windy two lane rural road well after dark with no street lighting for about 3 miles, when I saw two of them skulking off the side of the road as I came around a bend. They didn’t jump out in front of me, but I was aware of their presence, and was prepared to react.

Gotta keep your eyes on the road (and what’s off the edge off he road), too many people now simply don’t focus on the task of driving. Even if they aren’t dicking around with their phones, they aren’t truly paying attention to their surroundings, and are in more of an “autopilot” mindset. That’s where they end up getting bit in the ass.

  3. That’s a beautiful spot. I would love to be sitting there and watch the elk. They are some awesome animals. We saw then a few times when we were out west. When we went through Yellowstone we had a pretty nice herd come across the road and they split and went around both sides of the Jeep.

  4. I know that area well, been going there for 30+ yrs, those roads today are a quagmire for the hunters on the middle fork.
