Back in the seventies I was on a Adam’s class Guided Missile Destroyer working in the engine room. One of the most commonly used phases was “If it doesn’t work hit with hammer. If that doesn’t work hit it with a bigger hammer. If that doesn’t work paint it make it look good.
Pound it to fit and paint it to match…
The ending of “Measure it with a yardstick, mark it with chalk, and cut it with a torch.”
My favorite tool. No I lied, I like my grinder and sawzall.
A square peg WILL go in a round hole if you hit it hard enough.
A round peg will fit into a square hole also if you whack it hard enough….
Never carried a hammer in my tool pouch. (some mechanics do). I figure, if it needs a beatin’, I’m bringin’ the rollaway with the heavies. Besides, who wants to lug a hammer around for a twelve hour shift?
Light and fast serves many purposes.
