Bear Claw, to get there did you go through the Wind River Gorge?
Early May 2019 I had a wild time going down that road. The wind was blowing over 18 wheelers. When I finally got to Thermopolis I rolled into a campground right on the edge of town and pulled the covers over my head. That was a walk through the park compared to the next day going through the Bitter Roots in a blizzard. Really pretty country. No wonder those Rendezvous were held there.
No stayed in Waldron. Went to Thermoplis on a day trip to see stuff. I meant to send that pic to Cederq and remembered after I saw his train depot post.
I was in Thermop last week! The canyon from Boysen up there is a pretty spot.
Shit getting old sucks. I should’ve got in touch with you for a meet up.
Anytime, Bear! Cederq knows where I am (is that a good thing? I don’t know)
Another fur trapper of that era who trapped for Ashley was freed slave James Beckwourth (b. around 1798, d. 1866), aka the ‘Gaudy Liar’. If even half of what he claimed was true, Beckwourth led a completely fascinating life full of adventures that one can only dream about today.
Add the fact that he roamed every corner of the continental U.S. in the first half of the eighteenth century and one realizes that this was a remarkable man, yet almost no one knows of him today.
…his frozen ass rendered it to Jeremiah.
My plan was to search for hatchet Jack’s bones. He lived in a cave up on the muscle shell with a panther. She never did get used to him.
So Deathray isn’t the only mountain man to cohabit with other species? Sasquatch may be bipedal, but they ain’t people, even if Moochelle Obama says otherwise.
I kicked his ass in the Ouachita mountains long ago, he left
Bearclaw I was going to make some witty Jeremiah Johnson references but I see I was too slow on the draw 😂Anyway me and the wife did a RV tour of North-West WY including Wind River, Bridger-Teton and Yellowstone about four years back. One of the best trips we have ever been on. That country is truly the Marrow of the World. 👍
Yep saw Yellowstone for the second time a few years ago so pass. I did want to see glacier National but needed to get on to Minnesota to see an old friend the back home for birth of my first grandchild daughter.
Yes, marrow of the world, be careful with your hair Tac
