I loved the commercial where they drove a VW into water and it floats away.
If Ted Kennedy had driven a Volkswagen, he would have been President.
(Yes, I’m that old)
The ad for the VW…”Women are soft and gentle, but they hit things.”
ROFL !!!
That ad would never fly today. What a find!
You left out one of those bugs reassembled inside a room somewhere. When I was young those were always funny.
ps Big country is back online. When I logged on before daybreak I got the screen of nuked death, can’t be found. He fixed it.
And the ones picked up and dragged into the lobbies of high schools everywhere as part of the “senior prank!”
When we were kids… I mean KIDS, like, 12 years old, we took a neighbor’s ’66 bug, lifted it up, and carried it up an embankment and onto the front lawn. The owner was throwing a party and was drunk as a skunk. He had no idea how the car got there the next day! He thought HE had done it!!!
Yup. We put the assistant principal’s bug on stage just before an assembly. Curtains opened, everyone lost it.
My brother in law bought a 2000 VW and my sister wanted him to get the license plate “Y2K BUG”
That would have been a great VW plate, unfortunately he had no sense of humor.
i had one of those 81 volkswagon pick ups…thing went forever…first car i owned…bought when i was in the military…diesel, no ac…had it when i moved to tx….damn near died with no ac…
That is so cool! It would be fun to drive. I had a 1956 Bug with a 1968 Porsche 911 engine in it in Germany. Couldn’t bring it back. My next one was a 1968 Bug, loved it and good gas mileage.
Great post!
I like all VWs, but especially Things.
Schwimmwagens are super special.
My wife bought a 66 bug and a buddy of mine who I grew up with and was a great mechanic for a high end dealership told me if I bought the parts he would redo the car for the wedding present he never gave us. The parts at the time cost about $1400 (this was in 78) and when he was done it was as fast and handled like a Porsche. My wife loved it.
