Viet Nam Era Stats

When I was a kid the casualty count from Viet Nam was on the news every night.

The numbers out of Chicago from one weekend are worse than some of those.

Chicago shootings: 109 shot, 19 fatally, in citywide holiday weekend gun violence, CPD says

CHICAGO (WLS) — One hundred and nine people were shot, 19 fatally, in gun violence across Chicago from midnight Wednesday to midnight Monday during the extended Fourth of July holiday weekend, police said.

CPD Supt. Larry Snelling and Mayor Brandon Johnson both called for accountability for those responsible for the shootings during a press conference on Monday.

“This is a choice. The choice to kill. The choice to kill women, the choice to kill children, the choice to kill the elderly. These are choices that the offenders made and they calculated,” Johnson said. “We are holding every single individual accountable for the pain and from the torment that they have caused in this city.”

This from one city in a state with some of the strictest gun control laws in the country.

The sad part is that there are no solutions being proffered other than more gun control.

Some people just never learn.

  1. Heyjackass dot com has the sad story. This year is a record for the weekend but the year to date totals are well below the 2021 high mark. Since it is almost exclusively black men dying every 14 hours 33 minutes being killed by other black men we will NEVER hear about it in the national news.

  2. Obviously we just haven’t gone far enough into the chasm of Gun Control.

  3. And Chicago made the choice to elect a DA who will not seek charges for gun crimes and employs judges who refuse to sentence criminals to the maximum sentences. And then they all blame gun manufacturers.

  4. Illinois, under fatass J. B. Pritzker, the guy who can’t bypass a buffet, banned “assault rifles(including semi auto AR-15’s and semi auto AK-47 style rifles) and high capacity ammunition feeding devices in 2023 in answer to the weekly shooting debacle that has been going on in Chicongo for decades, despite the fact that 99.9999% of all Chicongo gun crimes are committed with hand guns.

The SJC has temporarily stayed enforcement of the law while Illinois defines “assault weapons and high capacity magazines”.

Why SJC didn’t just strike the law, as they have so many others of late, is puzzling. Apparently “shall not be infringed” doesn’t mean the same thing today as it did just a couple years ago.
