  1. Interesting…my sister had one as a kid in one of the blue states. Neighbors had a de-scented skunk. We had snapping turtles as pets, too. Baby birds that had fallen out of nests.

    • Cousin had a skunk, brothers friend had a trash panda till it went feral and bit her finger near clean off. I’m out in a green state.

      • I knew a guy lived out in the Woodward area (that’s in western Oklahoma for all you geographically challenged Yankee scum) had a badger he raised up from a kit or whatever it is you call a baby badger. A female, it eventually came into heat and took off never to be seen again.

    • While I don’t necessarily think having a raccoon for a pet is a great idea (they may be ok if raised from birth, but always retain some portion of their wildness, as Bear Claw pointed out) it was far easier to do so 40 years ago, before we were overrun with busy body Karen’s who will relish starting some shit by calling the local authorities to have the errant raccoon, skunk, etc. removed and destroyed. Always remember P’nut.

It should also be pointed out that it has become a rampant pattern of behavior for weird, woke people (particularly damaged women needing an outlet for their otherwise unfulfilled motherly instincts) to “rescue” all sorts of exotic pets, like racoons, possums, squirrels, wild birds, etc. The number of YouTube videos portraying these arrangements are probably in the multiple millions by now.

  2. Sounds like a real good way to end up with Racoon Roundworm. Not good news and most of them have it.

  3. I remember coon hunting with my Dad back when I was a kid. they are nasty fuckers who can rip the hell out of dogs. around here they mess with our “outside” cats and steal their food. so, live bait trap and a trip to the state game lands to get rid of them. or I used too anyway. I was informed that it is against the law to remove them from where they “live” (??) so, it a 22 to the head and dumped in a trash bag
at the dump anymore. why anyone would want one as a pet is beyond me.

    • Most who try to keep them as pets are of the misguided “aw, they’re so cute” mindset. You want cute? Get a dog or a cat. Or maybe a cockatoo, if you can make the long term commitment to owning a pet bird of that sort. They live a LONG time, and talking birds tend to be rather disruptive. The humorous value of their behavior can wear off quickly.

Racoons might be entertaining once in a while, but they are still wild animals, and will fuck you up badly while you have your guard down.
