This Would Be A VERY Light Load

I would feel naked if this was all I had in my pockets.

It’s crazy How much crap I lug around in my pockets every day.

The front pockets have two sets of keys, a bunch of change, a 4 inch crescent wrench, 2 mini flashlights, at least 1 but usually 2 razor knives, various nuts, screws, electrical connectors etc., at least 1 but sometimes 2 Bic lighters and this is just an average day.

The left hand back pocket has my cell phone and also often at least 1 shop rag hanging out.

The right back pocket has my wallet, at least 1 but right now 2, 6 inch crescent wenches and a 5 inch pair of Knipex Cobra adjustable pliers.

I also usually wear some kind of jacket or hoodie until the temperature hits 75 at a minimum and there is usually a full size 4 In 1 screwdriver, a pack of smokes, a 4 inch flashlight plus a small Klein 4 in 1 pocket screwdriver. Sometimes there is a 1/2 used roll of electrical tape and a few more nuts, screws and electrical connectors.

Add all that shit up and it starts getting heavy. Heavy enough that my elastic suspenders are crying their eyes out trying to keep my pants from falling around my ankles.

It’s a huge relief to come home at the end of the day and unload all that crap onto the little cabinet next to my recliner.

  1. Off the clock I just have keys, phone, wallet, pocket knife. At work add a 4” crescent wrench, flashlight and usually a pair of work gloves.

I hate the added stuff at work.

Pocket stuff dragging my pants down or making my pockets bulge is anathema. My key ring is 4 “regular” keys, my truck key, a mini pen and a Swiss Army Classic SD. I periodically shift the key ring when I’m sitting just because it bothers me.

  2. yep, and then reload the next morning. ya never know what you might need before you get into the truck. i would add a 10mm to that.

  3. A random check of my pocket contents dredges up my razor-sharp flip-blade knife, 3 guitar picks, my AA medallion, and 53-cents in change, along with some pocket lint.

  4. Hah! Brother from another mother, and I don’t even work for others any more.

Weighed my pocket contents the other day just by checking on scale full load then again empty, 5-1/2 lb of stuff (and that was without heat which adds maybe 3 lb more).

Phone, loose change, knives (2), wallet, flashlight, hearing aid batteries, small Gerber multitool, about 6 folded shop towels and one sharpie. This is EDC.

  5. I carry nuthin’ except the clothes on my back, the shoes on my feet, a pocket pew-pew, and keys (house & car) in my pocket. Everything else is ‘in’ the car…and the list of tools, thumpers, and pew-pews is too long to spell out. I self-employ, am mobile, so it makes sense my car is my carry-all. In the evening: only the pew-pews and flip phone come in. Everything stays locked up in the jalopy. -Henry

  6. Age waits for no man. In my younger days I wore shorts during the summer. First time I tried on a pair of cargo shorts, I didn’t like the extra length. These days living in Texas, I couldn’t survive without them. Current cargo manifest:
    Keys.
    Reading glasses.
    wallet.
    Pew-pew in a pocket holster.
    Reload mag for pew-pew.
Bandana (Sometimes my med gives me the sweats).
    Cell phone.
    CRKT folder with pocket clip.

I have never liked having spare change in my pocket. Likely because when I reached into grab keys or whatever, I would always get a couple of coins along with, and have to sort them out. Yeah I know, first world problem.

    • Forgot to add that I like these belts for hold up my shorts. Copy and paste into Amazon–

CQR 1 or 2 Pack Tactical Belt, Military Style Heavy Duty Belt, Webbing EDC Quick-Release Buckle

  7. If I loosen my belt, my pants will hit the floor, partly from the weight, and partly because I have the White man’s build — back, crack and legs, also known as Noassatol.

  8. Perry Suspender Company offer suspenders made with webbing, the only elastic is the piece that connects to the back of the belt. It is listed as BLACK Perry Non-Stretch Work Suspenders- 2 Inch Wide Belt Clip. I have a set of leather suspenders but I don’t recall the maker.
