I saw this and re-tweeted it yesterday.

Today, Donald Trump posted it on his Truth Social account.

If this had been in effect 5 years ago that whole Covid Operation would have never happened.

If it does actually get passed into law it will destroy the Main Stream Media in one day.

    Alas, a law like this would have to include CONGRESS, so we know CONGRESS will never vote for it.

  2. Fair warning up front: this is going to be a long winded sumbitch of a comment.

    This almost sounds reasonable on it’s face. But, being both cynical and pragmatic here, would it actually be enforced? When Smith-Mundt was still on the books, does anyone here actually recall the media being straight with us? Or recall ever hearing of any enforcement action taking place as a result of violating it? I sure don’t. Certainly the media is worse now than pre-2013, but I just don’t see this making much difference.

    The old line media is in terminal decline anyway, much like the newspaper industry went through 15-20 years ago, and newspapers are now a mere hollowed out shell of what the print media once were in terms of both quantity and reach; now basically irrelevant. TV is going the same way; they’ve so thoroughly fucked their reputations (except in the minds of their true believers, who will continue to watch until they drop dead anyway).

    In the next several years, we will quite likely begin seeing local channels (network affiliates) shutdown altogether due to the inability to remain profitable, and cable networks will do the same. Numerous non-news cable networks already have done so, but this will eventually whack the likes of CNN and MSDNC. They’ve already been curtailed in terms of things like foreign bureaus, which they can no longer afford as they did back in their heyday. They’ve also repeatedly reduced their staffing, and the size of their facilities.

    I figure consolidation via mergers and buyouts across the media landscape has already wrung out just about all the real gains to be had by “improving efficiency and economies of scale” (corporate bullshit speak for laying off redundant staff and dumping of unneeded capital assets after a merger/acquisition cycle). Ironically, this winnowing process somewhat negates the need for such laws.

    Then too, this (if actually enacted by the whores in Congress) would be just another of the many tens of thousands of laws on the books no one can keep track of. Consider how many get selective – or no – enforcement already. Adding new rules to the game when the referees are a bunch of fuckoffs who will look the other way and allow one (or sometimes both) teams on the field to violate them with impunity doesn’t do anything for us but install a false sense that “finally, these pricks will suffer some consequences”, only to be repeatedly disappointed that the moment of reckoning never arrives. Just more politically induced cases of blueballs. I don’t really want to be the turd in the punch bowl, but after all we’ve seen, I just don’t believe another law is going to do jack and shit. Maybe it should be on the books regardless, but that’s my honest take.

    Oh, and think back to COVID where so much alternative information – so much of it now proven scientifically and factually correct, as it happens – was so ruthlessly suppressed by the government and the media on the basis of being “false” and “harmful” (their words). A future situation just like that is the one place there would ever be actual “enforcement” (read: vehemently persecuting those who refuse to capitulate to reporting the officially approved narrative) by forces within the government and media complex who effectively have sole control to determine what constitutes “misinformation” via their appointed “fact checkers”. All that ends up doing is double screwing the good guys next time we get into a manufactured crisis where those who are actually correct are at odds with those who control everything. They’ll use a law like this to bury us, just as the UK is doing now against dissidents who publicly speak obvious (but uncomfortable) truths.

    Once again, this is an idea that may sound good in theory, but has no teeth, until the government decides it does so it can be used against political dissidents. That is the kind of system we are stuck under, for now. Do we really want to give them more power to screw us into oblivion even more just for a pyhrric and symbolic victory? Not that they wouldn’t in the absence of such a law anyway, of course.

    As it stands presently, always err on the side of less government, less rules, less possible intrusion into and control over our lives. The issue of lying bastards being given control over the media pulpit will have to be addressed by other means, just like racial crime issues, and so many other things for which there exists no will to impose the needed enforcement within our current system.

      • Spot on…yes, she has a good point, but my initial reaction is as BRD’s: “Another toothless law that will never be used because TPTB hate us American’s and it will backfire from its intent only to retarget onto We The People.

        Can’t fix evil dementedness and corruption with another law, whereas supply and demand works wonders to that end.

        TPUSA had over 18,000 applications for new chapters yesterday…that’s what changes things, not a bunch of feckless weak bureaucrats and their mental MSM shills who think they are the arbiters of all things when half (being generous) of them wouldn’t know which end of a screwdriver to use…because they were ‘that kid’ who annoyed everyone in Junior High so got stuffed into a locker during gym period, only now are enacting their revenge, some with guns while ingesting SSRI’s prescribed by some pop-psyche mental health “professional”.

        No, this drive off the cliff into the evil abyss by the idiots (save for PDJT and his A-Team, and a tiny fraction in Congress) will only change by the will of the good people. We’ve seen what those elected to work on our behalf do…can’t even uphold their Constitutional oath for two minutes. Government = “Do the opposite of normal thinking then complain when things get royally screwed up only to pile more on top of the turd they created”…which WTP get to pay the bill. SISU MAGA matters. So does eliminating half the garbage these lawmakers have created…get back to basics. Unfortunately there are far too many brainwashed into believing everything in life should be regulated, or free, or handed to them, or that their personal demons are our responsibility. Sorry, get a job and sweat for a change, you’ll be amazed what a hard days work will do for the psyche…as Paul said “and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you,”…or as my dad instructed, “learn a trade and manage your own life”.

      • Bustednuckles – I’ve considered it a time or two, but my urge to write to a high standard is not nearly consistent enough to make my own blog a worthwhile endeavor.

        Once one a while I drop a long form post here or there as a comment, if the subject strikes my fancy. But most of my comments are shorter, smart ass remarks. I doubt I could keep up the pace of quality output needed to keep much interest, as some one like Big Country Expat or Art Sido does.

        So, I remain an (occasionally) prolific commenter,.and that works for me. Hopefully my periodic rants don’t put off more casual readers.

  3. The only problem is, if it passes, and eventually the left get’s in control again, you know the left won’t use it against their little minions in MSM.
    There’s no way they would fine their own.
    We the people would have to be a little more…forceful with the punishment.
