Bought a pack of cigarettes in Tokyo back in 1995 (I don’t smoke, but couldn’t pass up the hilarity). Brand was “Black Death.” They also sold a very popular electrolyte drink called “Pocari Sweat.”
“Darkie” brand toothpaste, with a logo of some top hat-wearing guy in blackface, used to be common throughout Asia. I’ve got an old tube (from the early 80’s) squirreled away somewhere.
Now it’s called “Darlie” and they made the guy’s face lighter, but basically the same design.
Hahaha. But honestly I’m so fed up that even if the whiskey’s good I don’t want any reminder of the monkeyshines.
Besides, there’s a bottle of Bruichladdich “Port Charlotte” waiting in the kitchen….
