  1. Got school clothes once a year. The basement clearance, at Broadway dept store.

More than one patch on the knees. Which became cut-off shorts in the summer.

A winter coat was a prized possession. And something you never misplaced. Ever.

Maybe why I now have nearly 50x primo winter coats in my closet (all bought in the summertime. For $10-$20 each at the Goodwill).

Life is funny that way …

  2. I have one very, very good coat. It cost me more than every other coat I’ve ever bought, put together. I also have shoes that fit, although my curled under toes won’t ever recover from growing up having to wear shoes until they wore out instead of when they had been outgrown.

    • I forgot to say that we always had scars to match the rips in our clothes, which were ringed with bloodstains.

  3. Except for what I wear to work my wardrobe hasn’t changed much in 45 years but I’ve been cool, uncool, cool, uncool, uncool, uncool….
I’m pretty well stuck at uncool, but I still have the clothes.

  4. i had hand-me-downs from 3 older brothers. by the time i got them there wasnt a lot for the iron patch to hook on to be we were STILL never allowed to leave the house with torn anything – it all got repaired. and yeah, we had lots of swim trunks

  5. Yeah, but Daisy Duke sure looked good in those “cutoffs”!

The rest of you were ugly then, and still are.
