  1. I worked at a GM dealer decades ago, and one of my tasks was to process the warranties on Saturday. With that added to my title as Apprentice Mechanic, I was required once a year to attend GM Warranty Clinics. here, we would receive updates to policy and procedures….. then we would discuss unique claims and the efforts to solve them.
One dealer remarked how they had an intermittent noise in a car only when it turned, and not always when it turned. After many, many visits to the dealer and different techs trying to locate it, they removed the dash pad and found a small piece of pipe with both ends crimped with a small ball bearing inside – tack welded to the dash structure and felt pen written “YOU FOUND ME.”
Apparently, GM paid for every last second of the diagnostic process and repair.
As much as I was a GM fanatic in those days, I would never have blamed the customer for never coming back…….. after setting fire to GM headquarters.
