He’s 91 and he does it his way. Your way probably won’t get you to 91. I’m with you though. Work smarter not harder. Digging is literally one of the best exercises possible. He’s just working out.
That is what I was thinking since he dug all around, it would burn that stump to a manageable size to handle.

One of the funniest scenes I ever saw was the time an uncle was going to use a stick of dynamite to pop out a stump like that. He dug a narrow hole underneath the middle of it, backfilled it all proper. What he forgot to consider is that a blast force moves in the path of least resistance. It had been raining for a couple weeks prior, making the entire topsoil mass into mud. When he touched off the blasting cap, the resulting blast splattered a coating of mud on everything within a dozen yards or so. The stump sat there undisturbed.
Good things can be accomplished with high explosives, but you do have to know what your doing.

Likely the most famous FAFO with dynamite is the exploding whale. I don’t have the link at hand, but the internet is forever. They had the bright idea to remove a stinky, rotting whale carcass from an Oregon beach with explosives. When the shredded debris started raining down on the nearby press pool is a scene that cannot be topped.
