  1. My dad found out last fall that I raced his 77 Chrysler Cordoba when I was in high school. The car was something you would expect your grandfather to drive, but it would flat out fly when you stomped on it.
He gave me a look, thought I was going to catch hell.. he asked where, I told him, then asked if I won. He had a smile when I told him yes,
Dad being dad, he gave me hell, with a smile on his face the whole time..

    • My mom had a 1976 Dodge Charger, two door, kinda looked like a Cordoba with a 318cid but with a 4bbl carb on it and enjoyed racing the local kids with the Camaros, Monti Carlos and Firebirds and whip their ass across the intersection and at least a quarter mile it was such a powerful car. It was an Aztec gold color and it matched her full blooded Irish temperament!

      • 77 Cordoba, 400ci, 4bbl, A727 Transmission, with positraction rear end. Dark green metallic paint w vinyl roof., huge bench seats, front and back, Looked like an old folks car, but was a real sleeper. Engine would growl when you punched it.

Sitting in the local burger joint, picture a 1950s style drive in with carhops. Guy from neighboring high school circles through, early 70s camaro, not stock, but not as badass as he liked to believe. Flashed his lights,
Ok, followed him out to the 4 lane highway, straight stretch, with traffic lights about a quarter mile apart. Light turns green, and I stomp it. Got the drop on him, and took the lead. He was gaining on me, but not quite. Had the light been another 500 ft, he would have passed me.
2 lessons, 1, Don’t assume that the plain, nondescript vehicle is an easy mark, 2. If you are going to race, race, don’t talk shit. I was watching the light, he was talking shit, and allowed me to get the drop on him.

  2. Good memories. Hollerith punch cards, green-bar paper printouts, 8″ floppies.
Even have the ASCII art printouts as well.

Yeah, I was there. Got lotsa old electronics from that time as well.
