I can remember one about fifteen years ago, well most of one, where I got hammered drunk TWICE, before 10 A.M.!
I woke up half drunk to begin with at about 6, like I did every day back then, had a couple of straight shots of bourbon right out of the bottle sitting next to the bed while still laying in the bed, got up, pounded half a beer for a chaser to finish getting woke up, got out of bed and started sucking off the bottle some more, and got drunk enough to pass out by 7:15.
I came to again about 9:30, reached over and had another shot, staggered out of bed and opened another beer and then a buddy came pounding on the trailer door.
A half hour later I was smashed again.
It didn’t take too much longer and I was down again , slept 4 or 5 hours that time and when I finally woke up, I went and got something to eat, went to the bar after that and started partying some more.
Yeah, Thank God I finally gave that shit up.
With any luck I’ll be able to celebrate 11years of no drinky here come June 2.
I can very easily tell you that I don’t miss that kind of crap.
With that, please allow me to wish you all a Happy St. Patrick’s Day.
If you do decide to go out and celebrate, please be careful.
There are lot’s of rookies and people like I used to be out there.
Glad you came out the other side intact Phil. And congrats. We all have our crosses to bear now don’t we?
hey, the wife just passed 12 years sober. you can do it too.
I stopped because of her around that time as well. but I still have a couple of beers
now and then. a bottle of Scotch last me a year or more now compared to a week or two before. as she says, life is lot better now.
never was a bad as what you talk about, but I did drink my share for a long time
I don’t miss it at all either. maybe a cold beer or 2 on a hot day.
or a shot in my coffee at night watching the fire burn in the wood stove.
back when I worked the ER. this night was busy with morons coming in.
at least 4-6 car wrecks and whatever. don’t miss that either anymore.
beside, you can spend your money on stuff now instead of booze.
owned a nightclub in southern wva in the nineties. started reasonably sober but with various situations started to be a big drinker. case and a quart for starters daily and more depending from there. sold club and moved away. now if i do six beers a year its because they are dark chunky beers in glass and because someone brought them by knowing my limit is two and most of the time i stick with one.
It was a stupid, crazy night. Worse than a Saturday around here.
Sirens blasting by for a lot of the night, collecting dumbshits, no doubt.
I was watching the tube with my dogs and heard a sound like thunder. Didn’t think rain was coming. So I waddle out. Sure enough, big wreck at the intersection by my house.
Didn’t go up to gawk, but looked like a hypercar, or corvette, rear ended a pickup at the light pretty good.
The big dog growled and barked soon as he heard the impact and spent the next few hours growling and mumbling. Not a fan of cop cars and fire engines blasting by.
Alcohol made me break stuff,… and people. 23 years off it.
Not today…
Good on ya, Phil.
I’ve mostly stopped drinking, not as an active goal, just sorta happened over time. Drank the last can of Bud in the fridge last night, so the only thing left is a little vodka in the freezer. Maybe, now that I have a meager income again, I’ll pick up some decent craft beer, and a bottle of good whisky, but TBH, the desire to indulge just isn’t there.
I stay home on all the big drinking holidays. Used to know a drinker who did too, because he didn’t want to be on the roads on “amateur night”.
Too cold to go to the outdoor celebration to hear the pipes. Maybe next year. 3-1/2 months sober here. Sometimes I would like to have a shot of good Kentucky bourbon but not willing to test it yet. Hope you all had a good one, It’s good to be Irish.
I was never that bad. I was a weekend drunk. I still have the odd one now and then… but nothing like I used to. I quit smoking and drinking… and now all I gotta do is get my diet under control. Kudos to all the straight arrows out there! We are AWESOME!
😂👍
I pretty much gave up drinking in my late 20s. I got tired of my liver talking to me afterwards. It took years before my liver function tests came back into normal ranges.
Of course, raising a kid as a single parent on a minimum wage job played into the equation, too.
God Bless you Judy. Years ago a conversation with the female grocery store clerk at the register proved to me that single Moms are probably the toughest people on earth.
Pussies. The wife and I just downed 2 bottles of champagne watching Ireland beat England (from home of course) win the 6 Nations Rugby at home in Dublin.
Warming up for Movie night now with our daughter (teenager).
Chucky there is a pub in Dingle with all three of the e’s in the original last name the original Irish spelling. Some drunk Irishman between 1702 Maryland/Delaware and where I am today dropped one of the E’s. It’s on my bucket list to visit, Friends, Dad and Brother have been there.
So far in my life, never had any reason to cold quit alcohol. A few beers for lunch, a couple watching a White Sox game in the hot summer. Just beer. Haven’t had any hard stuff for 25 years. My gut don’t like it. Let me take this opertunity to give my appreciation to this fine entertaining and informative site. I look forward to it everyday. Peace to all.
Keep going 11 years is good. My last drink was October 15, 1981. The next morning at 7:30 I still had a BAC of 1.2. Gotta say after a few years I didn’t miss it neither do I miss my so called friends who seem to have disappeared.
In the years since then served in the US Coast Guard in Viet Nam, I finished college with an electronics degree and a business management degree. Worked in executive positions in three companies and when I turned 50 started my own company making machined parts for various industries and the government. Life is just as good without alcohol. By the way after all that I am still married to the same wonderful woman I married in 1968.
56 that is awesome Chief
14 years 2 months and 12 days without drinking alcohol so far. Didn’t think I was quitting for good, still don’t know for sure, but keep making the decision not to. Daughter one is almost 14 and daughter two is almost 12. I intend to see them thru the bad times that are coming. Can’t do that if I’m dependent on access to alcohol.
My life has never been better.
Keep going Phil, it’s worth it.
