  1. I lost my best dog back on April 1st and I still grieve for him. It sure is harder when you get old. —ken

  2. Dogs don’t have a long enough life span to satisfy us humans, now do they. Loved and lost. Buried too many of my fur babies, can’t do that no more.

    • Me? I will continue to love them and bury them and then get more, heaven will be full and fun having all my best buds up there!

      • Mega YEP there. The wife and I are old enough now that the last puppy, 3 years ago, is the last one. If we outlive our current crew of doggies, we’ll get an old dog that needs a loving home.

  3. used to sit on my front steps with my dog slim. just sit and watch the sun go down
and the world go by. a good dog will always leave a hole in your heart when they go. my dad used to talk about his dog even after 50 years.

  4. Dogs are the best. A longer life span would have been great but I am grateful for the time I have had with my pups and I try not to be saddened by the times I wished I’d had.

  5. Dogs, and even cats, you sure get attached to. Mostly, dogs… because they are so dang smart and have wonderful personalities. Cats, not so much.

Can’t get worked up about hamsters.

    • Clearly you’ve never lived with a Maine Coon. They seem to have the best traits of both dogs and cats.

      • BadFrog, I haven’t as yet figured out the best trait of a cat yet… I am not enamored about being staff to one.

        • Cederq, but cats are so useful for medical research, their nine lives make them so cost effective!

  6. Lost my 15 year old Basset two weeks ago today. First spell in 27 years I woke up to no dog that Tuesday morning. Looking for another.
I hope I go to heaven, because that’s where all the dogs will be!

  7. It’s always a heartbreak, but if you did your best to give them a good life, it’s worth it–all the love in return.
My cat will be 17 this spring; I wonder daily what I’ll find when I open the door coming home, but so far it’s all good. I’ve lost both dogs & cats, & mourned them all (except a tomcat named You Asshole, & I even missed him a bit).
