Sleeping Beauty

Yeah OK, I an’t no beauty but I have been sleeping.

And sleeping.

And sleeping.

and I am going to be sleeping some more.

I feel like someone slipped me a Mickey and I’m looking right at you Mr. Gabapentin 3 X a day.

Because when I am laying around on my narrow ass in bed I ain’t thrashing around, so I haven’t been taking the narcotics or the muscle relaxers.

Either way, I slept all day and fought for a half an hour to wake up enough to get out of bed and go take a piss.

I figured I’d post this update before I fall down again.

Hang in there, I’ll be back eventually.

crankier than ever.

  1. Take all the sleep you can. Your body rebuilds faster while asleep, and as you age (see current person typing) you lose the ability to get sound sleep. I would near kill to get a solid 6 to 8 hours where now the norm is 4 to 5 if lucky.
Heal you heel, and the feets too.

  2. We like you crabby. And healthy. Amazing how sleep heals. I’m with Terrapod in that I sleep for a couple hours and then make a trip to the bathroom, sleep a couple more hours make another trip sleep a couple more hours and say the hell with it and get up and start my daily coffee intake. At least then I don’t have to wake up to go pee and I can do it outside if I want since my shop is hidden by a couple of acres of trees and about 12 buildings here on the farm.

  3. Gabapentin? Well, I ain’t no pharmacologist, but that still seems odd. But if it’s working, well, who am I to argue?

Sleep, yeah. See, there is rest for the wicked – you just have to pay for it. I could use some extra meself.

    Hope the recovery goes quickly.

    • The sleep isn’t, most likely, a direct side effect of Gabapentin. What is probably doing it is the removal of nerve pain that our host has experienced for way too long.

After the worse case of shingles my doctor has ever seen (I thought it was poison ivy, yeah, I am that reactive to that crap) on my face, Gabapentin was the only thing that allowed me to get sleep due to the nerve damage.

        • yeah. the VA put me on that stuff. worked like magic for the first 2-3 months. then it didn’t. it felt like I was on fire. and yes, I had 2 and 3 burns before so I KNOW what it feels like. still had some pain meds and I damn glad I did ! you can not just stop Gabapentin, no you have to taper yourself off it.
funny part was the next time seeing the VA doc. he wanted to put me back on that stuff ????
but the wife tells me that I slept a lot when I was on it too. so there is that bit. sleep is not something that comes easy for me anymore. 2 hours max seems to be the normal these days. and maybe a few naps if I get lucky,,

  4. Gabapentin 600mg 3x day for7 years after back fusions. My wife and I call it my dumb dumb pill cause I was so out of it.
Get back on your feet as your body allows.

  5. While you don’t want to overdo any activity total lack of movement is not good either. It leads to atelectasis of the lungs, makes DVT more likely and with the addition of opiate pain killers can make you uber constipated. So motion…as tolerated on a regular basis is important.

  6. Get all the sleep you can while you can The Va still hands Gabapentin out like M&M’s I only wish it made me sleep Thanks for the update you sound like you are making progress
