Sick And Tired Of Being Sick And Tired

Me and the Wifely Unit both caught something around the beginning of the month and it has been kicking our asses non stop ever since.

She finally wound up at Urgent Care after she had made a doctors appointment and the fuckers cancelled it without telling her.

She tested negative for Covid but had a bad case of Bronchitis, which hasn’t really let up much. I’m thinking closer to Walking Pneumonia but Dammit Jim, I’m a Mechanic, not a Doctor.

She has been especially crabby because she can’t even have a cigarette without coughing uncontrollably and the steroids they gave her don’t seem to be doing much.

Whatever I’ve had has just sucked the life clear out of me.

Zero energy to do any fucking thing and it seems to keep going back and forth from my chest to my sinuses. Damn ear is all plugged up and the gland in my throat got so sore and swole up that I could hardly swallow or turn my head.

I came home yesterday, dropped my lunch box, took off my coat and my boots and fell into the recliner. After hearing some bitching about me sleeping too much lately, I slipped some ear plugs in and went to sleep right in the chair. I woke up at 9:30 and went to bed.

Thankfully she was smart enough not to wake my ass up for once.

She hasn’t got home yet tonight so we shall see what goes on but I am here to tell ya that I ain’t in the mood to hear a bunch of bitching. About anything.

The weather is supposed to get colder than a well digger’s ass starting tonight so we are supposed to go get groceries. Friday is supposed to be downright ugly. Cold, freezing rain, snow, who knows what all.

I’m hoping to be snuggled up inside all damn day.

Fuck that shit. No need to be out in it for no good reason.

It would be real nice not to be sickly for Christmas but at this point I’m not holding my breath.

  1. You have my sympathy.  I got to admit I have my family trained, if I’m asleep don’t wake me up unless the house is on fire.  I hope you get the rest you need, and I hope both of you get healed up. Would she be interested in a nicotine patch to try and help with the cravings while her lungs heal up?

  2. I’ve done the pneumonia crap a few times….Musinex to break up the congestion in the lungs and Sudefed to dry you up until the shit goes away… Vitamin D if u think you’re low… if you can’t get rid of the cough (I had this problem the first time around) it may be post infectious cough, in which case you’ll need Prednisone to calm it down. I had pneumonia from mold in a July many years back.. went to the Dr and they told me to do that shit above and gave me crappy cough medicine that did nothing… by Sept I was still hacking out a lung.. went back to the Dr and they said it was just the pollen causing my problem… in January the following year when the first snowstorm hit I was still coughing up a lung… called the Dr again and asked if they still thought it was pollen?… got prednisone and the cough was gone in a week… I hate friggen Dr’s, more now than ever since Covid.

  3. Wife sounds like me just after last Christmas. Heavy bronchitis & congestion. Maybe once or twice a day I’d try to have a cigarette. Went outside in the cold (I was staying at my girlfriend’s, & she doesn’t smoke, so I went outside, unlike at home), lit up, coughed for minutes, & gave up. Repeat in 6 or so hours.

  4. Yes, that stuff is everywhere and the same symptoms. Comes in waves and doesn’t want to go. Sinus to chest and back again. I’m not a doctor and don’t play one, but I can read what a doctor said. This helped me and others who have used it – follow the respiratory treatment guidelines using a nebulizer. The mist cleans out the lungs – allows you to bring it up and works for the sinuses. Make a saline solution .5 cup distilled water, .25 tsp non iodinized salt, or you can buy a saline solution. Next step, make the nebulizer mix. 7.25 tsp saline solution, .25 tsp hydrogen peroxide. For an added kicker two drops of lugol’s iodine. This makes about 3 treatments.

Amazon has nebulizers and probably walgreens, walmart, etc does too. About $55
    Good luck.

  5. Good thoughts to you and her, try quercetin with zinc and lots of fluids, grape juice if you can stand the taste, and wear the bibs for sleeping if you need to, body heat is important right now.

    • Yes, this.
Quercitin + zinc + pound the vitamin C and D.
Sweat it out, stop the smoking. Smoking weakens your immune system.

      • Use the patch if you have to, since smoking irritates the lung tissue – that’s the LAST thing you need right now!

        And quitting wouldn’t hurt… but what do *I* know…

        Anyways, GET BETTER.

  6. sounds like it time to rest up. lock the door, hit the sack and rest.
make sure to keep eating when you wake up as you going to need it to kick this shit. and only the dog will wake me up if he has to go out bad.
be nice if you could get someone to drop a load of food you only have to nuke to heat and eat. next best thing is eggs, they fast and easy to cook up, toss in some bacon and toast with your coffee when you do wake up. I don’t really drink anymore
but I do keep a bottle of good stuff around to throw in with my coffee or tea when needed. fix yourself a good hot toddy and hit the sack. or maybe a double shot of Nyquil.

  7. Damn Phil you’re starting to sound like me about mid October. Don’t let it go too long before you get checked. You know what being stubborn did for me.

Hope you two get feeling better soon.

  8. If you just feel like crap, and you’re occasionally coughing up lung butter, and you just feel run down, walking pneumonia is a good call.

Hot fluids to help break up lung congestion. Musinex. And a round of antibiotics.

Wife has it, we’re scheduled to see her doc next week to take care of it.

  9. when i had covid about 2 yrs ago i used NyQuil vapo-cool cough medicine. it will open your chest if you can stand to choke it down. it’s really, really bad but it works.

  10. Bronchitis

When I started getting it I learned the meaning of the phrase, “coughing a lung up”. That to me is probably the most brutal illness I get among others.

    • Bronchitis, Walking Pneumonia, whatever – it’s still bad juju for ya, and you just have to take it easy because that kills a LOT of us OLD Farts (folks over 60, thankyouveddymuch). Hang in there, everybody!
