A homeless Shanty Town during the Great Depression,
Homeless Camps in California right now.
They literally stretch for miles and miles.
Somewhere between 1929 and 1935,
Sometime between 2020 and 2022,
Do you know what the difference is?
It’s the difference between a Deflationary Depression and an Inflationary Depression.
It’s going to get much much worse here very soon as the purchasing power of the Federal Reserve Note goes down the tubes and the Inflationary Spiral we are in shoots for the Moon at the same time.
And every bit of it is being done intentionally.
Agree. Only the timing is in question.
The Great Depression was certainly cleaner and had some class, people though destitute and hungry, were proud and better citizens then what we see today. Although we have better campers…. They didn’t impose as people do today and certain behaviors like the “gimme parasites.” This depression is going to be more like a Mad Max movie, pure dystopia and no compassion given or taken.
That’s the Disney version of the Great Depression. There was no 24hr news and social media. Have you ever read about the Bonus Army? Organized crime spiked with murders, gambling and prostitution. A million people joined the Communist Party. Domestic abuse, family desertion, malnourishment and alcoholism went way up. Infant mortality rose while life expectancy fell.
The good old days were never that good.
I certainly didn’t portray my comment as a disney production, I merely stated that people had better class and behavior generally. Any time there is strife and society stressors and devastating change such as a depression there is a certain element of society that takes advantage of that, look at the demoncraps, “Never let a crisis go to waste.” Certainly you are going to have all those scenarios you listed, that happens every time of great upheaval. As an old saying us boomers had to endure, “You ain’t seen nothing yet.” The way this country is behaving much like Weimar Republic did with rampart homosexuality, decadency, devastating inflation. We certainly don’t parallel it, but will be one hell of an echo. You will see with in ten years all those conditions you set forth in your comment marde will be thousands of times worse then our benign “Great Depression” All because people back then were more civilized and polite and knew manners and were made of stronger stuff. I wonder if you read your history, organized crime did not arise because of the depression, it rose due to Prohibition. The Depression made it worse due to those same stressors and greed. I wanted to add, certainly there was no social media as we knew it today and no, there wasn’t 24 news, but 18 hour news, newspaper routinely had three editions a day, morning, afternoon and evenings and most had four on Sundays, had to get you comics someway… The nation had radio and would broadcast news and the gossip and doings of celebrities and politicians if only to fill airtime. I guess you never heard of the old ladies tree or the moms tree, or the old farts tree which would spread local news, bulletins and again, gossip faster then cell phones can today…
How do you know that “people had better class and behavior generally”?
The statistics don’t indicate that and the few people I know who lived through it say it sure wasn’t like the Waltons.
(sorry for the delayed response, I was away from the computer for a couple of days)
my grandfather had a lot of words to describe FDR. not one of them nice.
he kept his gold coins hidden in the bean barrel in the root cellar some paper money because it was in common use. said without gold backing the dollar it was a good as tp. might as well wipe your ass with it.
nothing FDR did help the people, what brought the country out of it was the war.
now, how in the hell did we go from one of the richest nations on earth to being 30 trillion in the hole ? and with the stupid moves from the white house, the petro dollar will be a thing of the past. once that happens, we all fucked like 1930 germany was. worthless paper money.
always said stuff was better than money, if it is the right stuff you need.
this is going to be really bad when the music stops and there are no chairs left for any of us. these fuckers hate us and would love to see us suffer.
Since 1944 the US Dollar has been the defacto currency of international trade, the worlds ‘benchmark currency’. China et.al are working hard to end that fact. There is talk of the House of Saud no longer using the Dollar as the standard for oil purchases but instead moving to the Yuan/Renminbi. If/when that happens the bottom will fall out of the US economy and all hell will break loose. The ONLY thing that has kept our economy from tanking has been the fact that the Dollar was the worlds benchmark currency. You ain’t seen bad yet, but it’s coming.
It’s gonna get a whole lot worser before it gets better. Thats certain.
They had dignity, begging out of necessity for survival. These days you have beggars set up at intersections in commercial areas where multiple help wanted signs are posted within spitting distance.
Pretty sure the majority of the homeless of old weren’t drug addicts who were getting a monthly check from Uncle Sugar.
