  1. While some may still use “y’all”, you make a good case for “ya’all”.
But is it “donut” or “doughnut” ??? 🙂

    • That all depends on whether you’re talking about eatin’ (donuts) or driving (doughnuts), don’t it?

  2. No! It’s “y” from “you” and the whole word “all”. Ya for you is AAVE and I won’t have any of that nonsense.

  3. Nope it’s “y’all”, short for “you all”. I’m a Southerner. It’s our language, after all.

  4. Just because they spelled it wrong here doesn’t mean y’all gotta spell it wrong, too.

  5. Who sez that because it’s written on a whiteboard that makes it official? Y’all ain’t right in the head.

  6. You = singular

    Y’all = 2-5 people

    All y’all = 6 or more people

The more crazy a person thinks the adressee is, the fewer numbers required to meet the plural categories.

And, yes, I heard one Southern Lady tell some crazy dude, “All y’all need to leave, bless all y’all’s little heart.” Every southern dude around did that ‘incoming artillery’ thingy, and all ducked and covered.

  7. The apostrophe takes the place of the missing letters. Clearly, then, it must be y’all. The ‘ stands in for the missing ou in you all. Being in print on a board does not make it true. Also, it’s is “it is” and its is the possessive. Contractions take first dibs, apparently.
