  1. Heh, yeah. I shoot off a lot of fireworks on the fourth (and will probably do more on Saturday). I do so while observing proper safety procedures, and limit the noise to reasonable hours (I’m done no later than 10pm) so anyone nearby who want to bitch and moan can kiss my ass.

We are increasingly overrun by Karens and joyless busybody scolds who just cannot stand to see anyone else enjoying themselves. Where I shoot it is legal to do so (with consumer class fireworks), therefore no one has any business calling the police unless I’m doing something genuinely stupid or dangerous (which I won’t be, because I’m not an idiot).

  2. I miss doing my fireworks show. We would have 30 or 40 guests. We were outside city limits so the hood would blow up daily a week before the party and a few days after.

Even the shitty neighbors would sponge off my show and have a party.

    • I usually do a big show for friends and family, 25-30 minutes worth fired electronically (not hand lit) with a hell of a finale. But, half of the usual group flaked on me this year to do out of town vacations for the week. So I’m shooting of some stuff randomly for my own amusement. Not nearly the quantity I’d normally do, and will probably mostly hand light what does get done. There’s a lot of planning, money and setup time that goes into a proper show, so in wasnt going to do that with hardly anyone showing up.

Remains to be seen if I return to form for next year; assuming I’m not dead, or in prison by then. I do perceive this years 4th to be quite a bit more restrained in general. I’ve heard very little fireworks set off in my AO so far this week, and normally it’d be pretty noticeably the last few nights already. I very much suspect people are tapped out, and just haven’t bought nearly as much as they normally would in years past. Vehicular traffic the last few days has also seemed uncharacteristically light on the interstates, so it appears there are fewer people on the road for the 3 day weekend.

All in all, it doesn’t feel like there’s much to celebrate. Given realities on where we are as a country, celebrating today almost comes off as anachronistic. I’ll still go through the motions, but deep down I know we are in a world of shit.

  3. If my cat’s shooting back, I ain’t calling anybody, just enjoying the show. I do, however, wonder where she’s getting those tiny rifles.
