As a kid in the 50’s and 60’s my mother always had a lidded metal container on the stove with bacon grease in it, and a strainer screen on top to hold back the little bacon bits. We ate a lot of bacon and eggs in rural PA. We had bacon last week and there’s a little container of the grease in the fridge right now, use it to fry my Sun morn egg sandwich. Yes, I put ketchup on my egg sandwich like all red blooded americans do. Californians use mayo.
Oh you fancy-pants, you, being able to afford condiments!
Funny thing, Cederq, I too have a small(ish) crockery dish with bacon grease right next to the stove as well. Seeing’s how Mom was from Virginia and was an EXTREMELY GOOD Southern cook, my Wifey Unit knows How To Cook Southern!
And so do I.
So how come I wasn’t offered some of that fine Southern cuisine? Lack of Southern grace I tells ya!
Obesity, diabetes, and heart disease..oh my.
I’m still trying to figure out the delicacy you find sometimes at country fairs, “Fried Butter”, how do they do that? But more importantly, WHY?
