  1. You can do it, Phil. My depression era Dad had a history of smoking just like you did. Started very young and smoked two packs a day ’til he went cold turkey when he was about your age. He lived to 84.
Like an old foreman of mine used to say, “You can do. I’ve got faith in you”.

  2. I smoked like a fish and drank like a chimney for 45 years and it never affected my mind. But the price was getting out of hand…me and my wife were spending 6 thousand bux a year!! So quit and bought a new Cadillac . However…I went from 190 to 235 in about a year. The good old days of a cigarette and cup of coffee for breakfast turns into two eggs and 5 pieces of bacon…so beware.

  3. It turns out that nicotine is a nanobot and spike protein killer, it’s another suppressed miracle medicine. It also helps testosterone somehow, I forget, I’ve slept since then and I don’t reboot like I used to.
I’m a life long cigarette hater. Now I smoke a couple of my wifes Marlboros a week.
The way my dad quit, was by putting a pack of cigs in his shirt pocket, when wanted to smoke, he smelled the pack. He kicked it in less than a month.

  4. I quit last Jan 3rd after 60 years on the butts. I used nicotine lozenges to help deal with the cravings until I didn’t need them any more. (They taste horrible which helps with the quitting) My Doctor prescribed them, so I paid a co-pay. They’re expensive without a prescription. It took several weeks of gradually diminishing use of the lozenges and toothpicks to finally be nicotine free.

I started off popping a 2mg lozenge every time I wanted a smoke. Then after the second week I started breaking then in half. Then in another couple weeks, quarters.

I also used nicotine infused toothpicks to help with the mechanical addiction of having something in your mouth. They also taste like crap, but it’s another tool to help with the quitting. You can find them online. There’s also gum and candy. I don’t have any experience with either of those.

I still have cravings every once in while even though it’s been over a year, although they’re not as bad as during the first couple weeks.
