That style of lift is only good for changing tires where you lift the car no more than is necessary to get the tires off of the floor. That way if it fails, the car only falls a few inches, and nobody should be under it.
I learned to always fasten arm to vehicle with a j bolt or little chains I made. Looking back I was lucky
Wonder if that tech will be able to walk after that. No way you can stop it from falling. I worked at a brand new dealership in Arizona. The lube tech had just raised a new dually on a asymmetric lift like that for its first oil change. Owner was standing at the door watching. Was up in the air a minute when it slipped and fell. No one hurt but the truck. The new lifts had rubber contact pads ,combined with the antitrust coating on the frame, the uneven weight distribution down it went. I asked why they didn’t use the larger metal pad foot. Guys said they had some like that but not enough for all lifts. Went on to say that was the fourth vehicle the had fallen in 6 months of operation. I didn’t last long there. Allan
Holy Crap ! Did the guy survive ?
I wouldn’t even CONSIDER an asymmetric lift! Who the hell thought these were a good idea? Cost cutting will kill ya. DON’T override the safeties, ya mooks!!
