I had a friend in the Coast Guard this happened to! He was hearing noise in one of his front wheels. His answer was to turn up the radio! Late one night, on his way home on the freeway, he got the same result as in the photo above! The hub was literally red hot!

That looks like a failed bearing combined with disk brake lockup, Can’t imagine how many miles they drove at highway speeds to get to red heat through the axle stub.
