  1. That last pic reminds me of a gas station where I grew up. Looks almost identical, including the covered space. Difference is that station sold Gulf brand products.

  2. Love the canopy gas station. I have a LOT of photos of canopy gas stations from along the Lincoln Highway and many other places, too.

      • I saw that movie for the first time as little kid in the hospital after surgery. I woke up late at night and turned on the television. I’m not saying it had much of a impact on me but I do tend to travel heavily armed.

  3. I remember PIE trucks. They were everywhere, and then at some point in time they just disappeared. But I’m old enough to remember when I-5 was built, so it’s been awhile.

      • I’m in that club (old). The first truck I drove was a ’53 Kenworth. It had a 300 Cummins (supercharged) and a five and a four (transmissions). That was in ’74. That engine was big horsepower back in the ’50s.

Side note: I just renewed my license yesterday. It was in the same DMV office I took my Class One test 49 years ago. In my 55 years of driving I have never received a moving violation or been involved in a chargeable accident. Happy Birthday to me.

        • Indeed, Sir! Happy Birthday!!

You will never die, you’ll just get a new Peterbuilt!

        • Happy birthday ya old gear changer! Old truckers don’t die, they just smell like a overheated Cummins engine…

          • Just so long as I don’t smell like an EPA and CARB compliant Tier 4 engine catching fire and melting down alongside the freeway I’ll be happy!
Thanks for the Birthday wishes, CederQ!

  4. second image from the top – H Model Mack like my Dad drove in PA back in the 50’s. I rode all over the east coast with him. Great memories… thanks.

  5. The P.I.E. tanker is one of the original Freightliners. The Feds made P.I.E. mass produce them because they gave those guys an unfair advantage.

  6. Yeah, there is something up with #4.
Mainly – Where is the rest of it? I only see a nose.
I do like the comfort accessory lying under it, though.

High Speed Cummins V8 diesel ?
Your average, STOCK, 12 valve would gut stomp that for fun.
