Old Truck Tuesday

Sam Bedwell and his ’52 Power Wagon on the Alleghany Star Route, 1968.
Sam and his daughter Sue delivered the mail to Alleghany in Sierra County for over 50 years, from ’38 to ’94. In the early days Sam would haul gold back to town from the mines. He was never robbed.
This truck belonged to a well respected logger named S.C. ‘Doc’ Linebaugh from White Pines (near Arnold) CA. Doc was the biggest logger in the area at one time. He died in ’74. He was very brand loyal and at one time all his trucks were GMC. This is quite a load for a truck like this.
Here are a couple of neat pictures of KWs you might like that I found while looking for Doc’s GMC. This last picture is very close to the same year model as the ’65 ‘Narrow Nose’ KW that I owned. The four pictures above were sent in by Elmo, thanks for sending them!

  1. I would love to own that 46. I would drive it around town all the time. Stake bed makes it look cool.

  2. That green LT Mack with the aluminum sleeper is just like a truck that was owned by a guy that delivered firewood to the big cities from the little town I lived in when I was a kid. His Mack was black and white with a sleeper like that, and the truck had a 5+3 Mack ‘Duplex’ transmission with a 4 speed Brownie behind it. If I remember right it had a two-six bits (275 hp) Cummins, which was supercharged by a blower, not a turbo. It was a slick truck.

BTW, I love the old Dodge Carryall Power Wagon. If I owned it I’d keep it exactly like it is, mismatched wheel colors and all. Fun.

  3. Looking at all the old, cool, shit , always reminds me of how far off of the fucking track we’ve veered.
