I did not know resident Bidet had a farm in Tennessee
Two years in high school working at a Kerr McGee gas station. I told people I was in oil and gas, they did not know in the oil and pumped the gas
The bell ding, yes, another thing lost to “progress”.
With the loss of “service stations,” the hose went away. My brothers and I used to play with them until my father told us to quit. We tried it again heading back to Oregon from Tennessee, back before the interstates were built, and my father threatened bodily pain.
I worked in a gas station in high school and college. I heard that bell ring thousands of times.
So did I, it got to be annoying at times. I could never work at McDonalds or Burger King with all the bells and gongs going off all the time to let the low IQ morons the fries are done…
The red Chevy three axle and the old phone company rig sure bring back some memories.
And if you only knew how many hours I logged at the ‘controls’ of Tonka Trucks and equipment. Funny thing is that I went on to a career operating those same rigs in real life!
Thanks for this fine collection, CederQ.
Foden….
Ye Olde English Truck..
Had a gas station in Hamilton Square NJ that had one. Friend worked there. He had a built up ’55 Chevy and was trying burnouts with his new traction bars. Owner told him to knock it off and just to spite him, he did one more burnout. Traction bar broke and caught the air line and he pulled it until it snapped and it stung the owner of the gas station right on the ass.
Good times….1965.
How to make friends and influence enemies!
There’s a full service station with that bell in Jaffrey N H. called Red’s. Old building, great old fashioned service.
