  1. Cederq, the armoured train pic gave me an idea to suggest two subjects to put to you for future posts: WWII Soviet and German armoured trains in Russia, including their defensive armed wagons; and general wartime German trains and their flak-wagenen. You could expand it as you and the readers see fit. Even domestic US and Allied wartime images are interesting.

    • I was hiking in the lower Rogue River Wilderness canyon, and there is a lot of old mining equipment from Gold Rush days rusting away, ore carts, railway pieces, etc. There are no roads near, the river is a fierce whitewater paradise, and I had to wonder how on earth did they get this heavy iron equipment in here? The answer I was given was….mules….or Chinese….and they killed a lot of both doing it.

  2. And now, China has most of the world’s high-speed rail trackage, and they have the only maglev trains.

Also, if you’re going to do military trains, some railroad guns would be nice.

Of course, more Julie Christy, with or without trains, would be good, too.

  3. There’s a Chinese steam loco in the National Railway Museum in York. The footplate is so big you could hold a barn dance on it!

  4. First pic looks a helluva lot like a streamlined C&O Hudson but the wheel configuration is that of a Pacific. Guess they were pretty good at copying even back then.

  5. That pic of the locomotive being off loaded from the ship. Everybody takes pictures of the object being lifted. For once, I’d like to see a pic of what’s lifting it!

Until the crane tips over. Then every sumbitch with a camera within driving distance shows up.

  6. The long boilered ,red wheeled, shiny black beauty is actually a german locomotive. The photo is reversed. Deutsche Reichsbahn class 01 150.
