Now it’s playing in my head but that’s okay.. Big Boy ran thru near by town last week. Saw it last time but my friend could not make it this time so I did not go.
ps Thank you for that
During my travels in Texas, I’ve found many old abandoned trestles, and railroad tracks. That, and the foundations of trestles long abandoned on the banks of rivers, or creeks. Some have new railroads adjacent to the old. Others, covered by underbrush, and hard to see.
On October 14th I was able to see the Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 steam engine in Muskogee, OK. It was an amazing machine. I didn’t get any close-up pics because it was a cluster fuck of people. I don’t care much for crowds but I am glad I drove 2 hours to see it.
Just watched big boy run by my tracks 2 days ago
Folks in my driveway when I pulled in
Knew what was coming and sure as shooting, 5 min later….
I love the smell of train yards!
Enjoyable pictures.
The one thing I never see in post about trains is the Rock Island Line. In the late 40’s and early 50’s my aunt and I would ride to Chicago ever month or so and the train yard was always bustling with trains. We had/have so many mgf co.’s in the Quad Cites that kept them moving. And all of these train stations sit empty now. I used to love riding every time we went.
I did a Rock Island Line Old Train post about three years ago and have posted Rock Island train and stock pictures.

Shorely is good to see this Thread Subject come back, CederQ…it has been sorely missed. Got a Lady Friend that dearly loves all things train and I’d forward the link to her every week. Keep ’em coming.
Love your work, Good Sir, I drop by and visit a coupla times a day, just don’t comment very often…but I have stole…uh rather..shared a bunch of your stuff to a bunch of folks. Thank you!
I had enough of you rowdy misfits asking, cajoling, threatening me I obliged… Now, my problem is getting my computer to handle the photo file protocols that windows seem to think that JPEG and Gifs weren’t good enough, now is using JFIFs and TIFFS and High Efficiency Image File Format which my computer can’t handle (WIN 10). Tomorrow I take it to my computer nerd and there is a program he can install that will let my computer utilize in those picture format. I refuse to use Win 11…

Man I appreciate old train Thursday. I had the pleasure one summer during college break to work on the railroad. I got sent to North Platte Nebraska, the largest railhead in the world, working for Westinghouse Airbrake, under Union Pacific. Aside from the women and shenanigans, traveling and working on trains was one of the best experiences of my life. One of my few regrets in life was at the end of the gig, Union Pacific offered me a traveling supervisors job and I turned it down to finish college and then spent the next 31 years in the military. Man, did I fuck up. Always something about trains and travel that has had a grip on me since I was a kid.
Thanks for the train pics.
Nice to see trains that have NOT be vandalized by domestic enemies.
