What you have listed as “SOO Line” is actually a Southern Pacific Daylight pulled by a Lima Locomotive Works GS-4.
Yup, definitely. One of the best paint schemes in railroad history.
David, I admit I don’t research the pictures, I pick what is pretty, unique, old, interesting. The caption under that picture said SOO… I am getting up there in years and down in sight and I couldn’t make out the lettering on the side of the train. It did look like a SP, but wasn’t sure. It isn’t the first time I have stepped on my crank and did a two-step.
That first badge reminded me of a Dad story. When he was a kid trains had what they called a Bull to keep hobo’s off the train. They would get on the bridge over the tracks in his little town where he grew up and throw rocks at the bull. He said the bull would fake reach for his pistol and they would all duck.
Ernest Borgnine played the greatest bull in the best hobo movie ever made.
“Emperor of the North” with Lee Marvin as the hobo. Watch it if you have not seen it.
ps Keep ’em coming Cederq.
Never met a bull but got to meet the railroad police when I was a kid. The Frisco crew dropped a load of RR ties for doing track repairs. All us neighbor hood boys “repurposed” a bunch of them to build a log cabin about fifty yards off the track. RR Police stopped by all our houses and gave us a stern talking to. that was about ’68 or ’69.
How bad is the economy? I bought four O gauge passenger cars, NIB, for twenty five dollars.
Judging by the amount of dust on the boxes? She had them for a forever (at indoor/outdoor swapmeet).
4014 was cool, took my mother in law to go see it live when it travelled nearby a few years ago. Okay she was with me but I wanted to see it.
ps she was in her ninety’s but still spry.
I’ll bet that was a trip you’ll always remember.
A few years before he died I took my Dad to visit the Victory Ship SS Jeremiah O’Brien when it came to Sacramento. He had sailed steam ships just like that during the war on gasoline tankers, and even though he had a tough time walking and navigating the stairs down into the engine room I could almost see his memories flooding back.
I don’t know if it was one of his favorite days but it sure was one of mine.
Friend of mine has a speeder he’s rebuilding so’s he can “ride the rails”. Looking forward to a few trips with him!

Our motto was “more track!” You just can’t have too much track.
Gotts lotts of that!
