The one with the mortar looks like it might be from “The General”. Any Buster Keaton fans out there?
It’s the “Dictator” a Union mortar that was used during McClellan’s Peninsula campaign. I have a copy of the Keaton classic.
The actual event of the stealing of the General included a man from my home town of Christiansburg OH. Just this past summer we dedicated a monument to him in the Veteran’s Monument in town.
Sgt. Major Marion A. Ross; 7th man to be awarded the Medal of Honor, first to have it awarded posthumusly.
Love old trains and train stations. Always good to see a Big Boy in picture and once live.
Got to see him in Portland, in the yard at Mock’s Bottom. Dang thing was HUGE!!
I watched it rolling through Claremore, Ok. with my 90 plus year old mother in law
That Reading RR T1, #2102, used to be the loco they ran on the “Reading Rambles” back in the 70’s. Never rode behind her but used to pace the run and get ahead and set up for photos at scenic locations along the route. Remember one time waiting for the return trip for hours only to finally hear that when they put her on the turntable, she spread the rails because of her weight and it turned too dark for photos before they got her rerailed.
