  1. I worked for SPRINT COMMUNICATIONS back early when they were a microwave company in California, and SPRINT stands for SOUTHERN PACIFIC INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS. SPRINT was bought by GTE and then United Communications. United was based in Kansas City and wanted SPRINT due to the Railroad ties it had. It has now been bought by T-mobile.

Under various 1860s Federal railroad acts the Railroads have an unrestricted path through anywhere they go and it includes below ground and to a very good distance on each side. This was written to get the railroads to build across the nation. All railroads have agreements with each other. The Feds, States, Counties, and Cities cannot control the builds.

So when SPRINT built out their fiber network, which was United’s desire, they had total ease to place it along various railroads and past railroad paths. Costs, delay by politicians were eliminated, and the build went fast.

    • Railroads, due to very old, arcane ‘laws’, have what is called “Alloidal Title” due to their Properties being “Land Grants” by the ‘government’ or Sovereign. This gives the Railroad a near-absolute Right to Do what they want on the property without ‘government’ oversight, as well as requiring the ‘government’ to have their Permission to Build Roads or Utility Easements across the Tracks. “Eminent Domain” has been Ceded to them.
A Road/Rail Crossing is a Place of “Innocent Trespass” where the Driver/Pedestrian may Cross, but if you get Hit by a Train, it’s Always the fault of the “Trespasser”.

  2. The old boy at window reminds me of a joke about a hare-lipped fella trying to buy a train ticket…

      • I try to do such things with at least an attempt a humor. I’m a grammar & spelling Nazi, but not a dour one.

          • I did not proof read as well as I should have. I too am, a bit of a grammar and spelling OCD freak… I have several people on here that I have permission to edit and correct their comment. And if is so atrocious and even I have a hard time deciphering the comment, which I have lots of experience with deciphering doctor’s orders I will edit them for clarity. I never take offense if it is pointed out to me. My ego doesn’t get in the way, just my many demons…

  3. Hey! Thanks for posting the badges of the “Yeggs”! I have never seen a badge for the railroad police.
