What sort of hitch/coupler is that in #15 and 17# ?

Interesting and typical of US goobermint. 1830 trail of tears made them go west. 1886 shipped some different ones back.
I rode the Shasta Daylight from Klamath Falls to Sacramento around 1960. It was diesel powered by then. Outside the Sacramento station they had one these engines on static display, most likely #4924 in the opening photo, not #4274 in the video–
Still loving it. Grog would do well.
