Rode on the Duke of Glouscter between Ipswich and London back in ’60 as a kid!
Those steampunk ones are cool!
Love these old RR photos. That C&O streamlined behemoth is a steam turbine locomotive. Chesapeake & Ohio, Virginian , Norfolk &Western and Pennsylvania RR all were coal hauling roads that experimented with steam turbine power but diesels proved to be more economical and versatile.
Live beside the old Western Maryland and B&O/C&O tracks, now all part of CSX. You use to feel the trains coming down the mountain way before you heard them. Seemed the ground would rumble while they transported around a 100 coal cars down the mountain three times a day. The closer they got the more things sitting on shelves would dance. Is photo #3 in reference to Fallout 4?
Great collection of shots. I look forward to them. Thanks
Once again, great series !
No way that’s India Railways, there aren’t 1000 people clinging to it.
Good set Cederq. Loved that Oregon logging train. I have seen these bridge abutments and walked a bit of this trail but have never found any pics.
