How Wire Rope is made.
You can get Wire Rope made with a Right Hand Lay or a Left Hand Lay also.
It just spins the other way when they are making it.

And toilet paper ALWAYS feeds off the FRONT of the roll. ALWAYS. The next time some idiot puts the roll on backwards – I am gonna CHIMP.
I will tolerate no dissention or disagreement on this important topic.
What got your toilet roll bent out of alignment?
Who cares which way the toilet paper is loaded into the holder. So long as the person who used the last of the previous roll puts a new roll in the holder. Same goes for the ice cube tray. Refill the damn thing for the next person.
And furthermore, the position of the toilet seat is irrelevant!!!
😂👍
That is absolutely correct Glenn. I had to change after seeing the 1918, I believe, patent.
ps Why would you need a left hand lay?
Cable tool well drilling tools are rh threaded, so cable is lh so working the tools keeps the threads tight. The tools are meant to stretch the cable to impact, using the plumb bob concept to keep the bore plumb and in alignment. A swivel at the upper end of tools will allow the cable to release tension spinning rh.
Okay, dumb question from the guy in the back of the room: Is there a reason why we require two types of wire ‘hands’ in the 1st place ? A certain application of why one is more appropriate to use than the other ?
As the cable rules on and off the drum it chafes against itself.
If the lay is wrong it will try to unravel The wire rope.
“worm and parcel with the lay, turn and serve the other way”
I learned that in boot camp in 1967. I was a Machinist Mate so have never used it since. Something to do with wrapping rope.
Never used “rub your balls with graphite” either. But if need arises I can tell how far apart 2 ships are when refueling or replenishing underway
