  1. Now that’s a man sammich. Nothing like a little heart attack food to brighten your arteries.

  2. “The Train Wreck” at Crazy Ottos’ Empire Diner (Herkimer, New York):
Two beef patties on a big plate of hash browns and mac-and-cheese. Mmmmm.

    • I find this ironic, you a heart specialist advocating this high cholesterol, high fat “The Train Wreck”, unless of course you are a pragmatic doctor that doesn’t give two cents what some in the medical field would swear that deadly combination would kill every man, woman and child in the world. Myself, I figure I am going to expire one day and why not enjoy the finer gourmet in life. Being a Type ll diabetic on insulin (U500) am I always presented with what my diet is and admonished by my primary, my endo NP and nutritionist by my diet. I consistently average 6.2 to 6.7 A1C. I always ask what definitive studies are they basing their assumptions on…

      • I can’t argue with that A1C. Generally, I figure eat a mostly reasonable diet, have a few drinks, get some regular exercise, and you’re good. Use a little common sense and moderation, and try to enjoy your life. Doctors who are fanatical and tyrannical about diet and booze get up my nose. I mean, if you personally enjoy the misery of living off of a diet of organic cardboard, cruelty-free velcro, and expensive bottled spring water from Fiji or some shit, you be you, but don’t push that hair-shirt mentality on me. I’ll have a bacon cheeseburger every once in a while when I feel like it, and it’s no one else’s business.

Besides, these days I feel that any doc who has pushed The Jab has lost all moral authority to tell anyone what to do for their health. I was quite ill last year (not with covid) and a whole bunch of specialists were after me to get jabbed. I explained why I was against it, and they couldn’t refute my reasoning, but kept insisting that I get jabbed. Finally I said (had to say this several times to different people), “If anyone comes at me with a needle full of Pfizer or Moderna I will consider it an attempt to commit grievous bodily injury with intent to do me life-altering injury. I will react accordingly.”

        • I do eat a moderate, reasonable diet and exercise. Like you a greasy bacon cheese burger does cross my lips and I enjoy it without guilt or conscience… I do have a nursing background, an MSN and a Behavioral Science Masters… It is not like I don’t understand…

      • During my last visit to Pri Care, they told me I was boderline diabetic with A1C of 6.7(I think that was number. Maybe I’ve got the numerals reversed). Anyway, I called ex-wife #2 who is Type 1 and has been for 40 years. When I told her my number she laughed and said these Pri Care Doc’s have no clue. Her A1C generally runs 8.5. I think that’s what she said. Memories a little foggy there. Usually, her first sugar of the day is in the 400 range.

I’m in my mid 70’s and feel fine although I get tired faster than I used.

Next time I go for checkup, I may say something like My ancestors all lived to well over 90. After seeing how decrepit and demented they were after 90, I’m good with 90 and intend to enjoy getting there.

        • Nemo, there is no borderline, you are either a diabetic or not a diabetic. A 6.7 A1C is well with in normal range. If you are not fasting and had a meal it will show up. Better, definitive tests are the insulin suppression test, Fructosamine C-peptide from a single fasting blood specimen, insulin resistance test. If you are concerned, make an appointment to an Endocrinologist and he will run several test and variations to determine if you are diabetic. Pri Care docs are just basic general Kmart style of doc in a box.
