Mountain oysters! Protein with flavor. It’s an acquired taste. Don’t ask how they’re acquired.
You attended a calf roundup lately?
Been there, done that.
the branding, tattooing, and tagging is just part of the fun.
The K Ranch days. Some good family and neighborly togetherness.
Somewhere near Butte Falls, Oregon.
Only a memory now.
Montana, somewhere off of I-90, has one every year. I forget the name of the town.
No thanks.
You don’t want to try some Rocky Mountain Oysters? Taste like bacon!
The Testicle Festival at the Rock Creek Lodge in Clinton, Montana (~20 miles E of Missoula) was permanently cancelled in 2018.
Calf round ups, boy that brings back some memories!
I tried them once at a restaurant in Denver 40 or so years ago.
Once was enough.
I love Calf Fries. Dad always had some from his rancher friends. A small cooking and gathering called “The Calf Fry” when I was in college has now turned into a full blown three day Red Dirt concert just called Calf Fry now. My daughters attended a few of them. It’s a big deal.
This was an annual event in Rock Springs, AZ- at the cafe by the same name for many years. I believe it’s been moved eastward to an Indian casino at the south of Payson, AZ. It’s quite the thing! I’ve tried them by accident once…but once I had knowledge, I was about as disinterested as you could imagine…

Rocky mtn oysters taste best off a branding iron…crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside and a dribble of grease on your chin. In Montana go to Ryegate for a taste.

I don’t care much for beef nuts but the lamb fries at Cattleman’s Steakhouse at the stockyards in Oklahoma City are some good eatin’.
