Dylan Thomas (no, not that asshole Bob from Minnesota):
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
True, true, but you have to admit Bob from Minnesota at least managed to create one great song (though it had to be reworked by Jimi Hendrix) “All along the watchtower”.
We can all relate to the geezer (though I’m no spring chicken myself at almost 60) – 70’s, 80’s and part of the 90’s rock was great. After that things went to hell and you could barely find some good song and almost never great songs; everything is now guided by the “time-to-market” principle and rehashing old tunes is considered “creativity”.
When our generation passes there’s going to be hardly anybody able to appreciate great music…
When I want to scare the cats, I sing to them imitating Minnesota Bob (scares the shit outa them, try it) but for sure I’ll give you that about Watchtower and raise you up Dave Alvin out on Highway 61:
Pretty good guitar playing, I’ll give you that, but I’m not that thrilled about the lyrics – not Dave’s fault, Minnesota Bob’s cryptic pretentiousness at play. I find it really pathetic they’d given him the Nobel for literature…
Amazingly enough, I had never heard that one before. Pretty good.
You put another headbanger song up Phil? That means I have to dig deeper and find a soulful Country and Western song from the 40s to counteract that one… Damn you make work for me!
Dudn’t matter, we won’t be able to hear it now
I have several media versions of Between the Buried and Me’s Colors album. I have a record player on a pub table next to my setup and use that more often than not. A little Cannibal Corpse on it doesn’t hurt my feelings!
My transcription turntable is alive and well…
Rock On, Granddad! You’re never too old to rock and roll!
Fuckin’ A.
And the shit I listen to gets heavier as I get older.
Here’s one for you Old Baastids that need the Metal fix!

You can hear the Motorhead influence on this one.
Headbangers unite!
