my dad ran out of beer one Monday night. so he walked up to the bar about 2 blocks away. on the way home so punk tried to rob him. did not turn out well for him. he pulled a knife on my dad. and wanted his BEER and his money.
dad served in the navy in both WW2 and the Korea. he has a box of medals from that time. and a navy cross as well. after the wars, he worked with a concrete and masonry crew for the rest of his working life. so, here you have a tired old man who just happen to be stronger than you ever be and you want to take HIS beer away ?
dad was nice enough to drag the worthless punk to the ER. another block and a half away. the cops there tried to lock him up. for beating up the punk ?
he was pissed as he missed the last half of the game and his beer got warm.
but he came back home 3 hours later. the punk spent the night in the hospital before going to the round house (city jail) I think he broke the kids arm and hit him in the head a few times. you don’t fuck with old guys. they have gone thru more shit than you know. dad was 68 at the time. anyone that has to lift and move 75 pounds blocks all day is not someone you want to play with like that.

dad was careful about things like that. more than once I saw him as a kid talk his way out of a fight. he was a country boy from eastern KY. used to spend fall/winter cutting trees into
railroad ties. and cutting a lot of firewood. a crosscut saw.
my uncles told me the reason he left for the left coast was because of a fight at a dance up in Ohio. seems he broke some guys neck with his first punch. and left that night going west. my mom was 5 foot 9 inches and he used to pick her up like she was nothing and swing her around the kitchen. last time I saw that, it was his 60th birthday.
