Best have access to a good supply of coal. Once things truly go south propane won’t be readily available and a wood fire is difficult to get hot enough to smelt metal. But yes…..smithing is a very useful skill. Even now.
used to be you could get a pickup load for about 70 bucks around here. pa highlands. not so sure anymore and I don’t have a pickup.
but that I was told about a year or so ago. and there are a few houses around here that still heat with coal too. just that the guy I knew left and went to fla. when he retired. I have to look around and see what is what.
seems better to buy in bulk rather by the bag like a few shops sell it.
