Uuuuuuuurah!
Thanks Igor. Upon graduation 3-70 at MCRD, San Diego our Platoon Commander allowed us to unbutton our top button on our utilities, kinda important due to SoCal heat. Then most important, we were called everything in boot camp, except man, boy or Marine, he called us Marines. Then, emphatically, he educated us on the proper enunciation of the USMC “cheer” Uuurr-Rrrahh!
Other branches say hoorah or oorah not “Uuurr-Rraahh”, he cautioned. Just sayin. 1st ANGLICO 1-70 to1-73 with two tours in Viet Nam.
well, I sure wouldn’t try to give that to my uncle Jack. he was a marine back in ww2
served with Chesty Puller. from the “canel” to Peleliu. after that bloody mess, he was sent to train the guys that went in on Iwo. after the war, he started a sheet metal shop doing custom kitchen work. made a fair bit of money too.
got called back for the Korea mess, again pushing troops for 2 years.
he used to go to the reunions up till the 1970’s with the first marine division
had a few pictures of him and Chesty on his wall too.
I asked him one time as a kid who that guy was in the pictures and he sat me down and told me all about him. him and my dad used to sit and swap stories while having a beer or two on the front porch. you could learn a lot from those two guys about the times back then. he had a box of medals somewhere, like my dad did. I going to raise a beer or two to them today later.
