  1. money to burn. yeah. looks like a blast. problem is you are beating the shit out of it at the same time. here a question, how many times can you do “fun stuff” like that before you have to start replacing ties and parts ?
    so, like I said. money to burn.

        I see an awesome gun platform for shoot-n-scoot missions that has potential to outrun drones and go offroad while doing it.

        and I have “caught air” more times than I can remember.
        and that is how I know that doing shit like that costs money
        time/parts and what have you.
        so, yeah. I have pushed a car or two past what most people would think is normal use.
        BTW, I learned to drive on gravel roads without guard rails
        in eastern KY hills. let me see you dive them fast and then come back and tell me about it.
        don’t do it often anymore. but if I have too I still can.
        scares the shit out of the wife though,,

    • Unstable? That pavement drift didn’t look unstable to me. Looked like he steered with the throttle, with an assist from the steering wheel.

  2. Wrong, They were MAD stable! I grew up in El Cajon, Ca., one of the most enthusiastic off road areas of the country. That red Ford is exactly (figuratively) what won the Bala 1000, 500 and countless off road races all over the world. That Ford was Class 8, unlimited truck. One was clocked at 160mph on the dry lake bed on the way to La Paz, Baja. The only other class comparable was class 1, unlimited. Expensive? Yep in 1980 (my last direct involvement), $100,000 in parts and labor. Obviously a sponsored, team effort. You could build your own, that was not Score Regs legal for about $10,000, that was 90% as fast and off road capable as that red Ford. They were called chase/support vehicles and were long beds. They were also daily drivers and hobby trucks.
    The Ford, ’65 to ’79 twin I suspensioned trucks won more races than Dodge and Chevy combined, well after ’80, when Ford dropped the twin I suspension. They were relatively easy and cheap to build a mild version, with high travel suspension, that would give you orgasmic G force off road thrills in the deserts of the South West. Yeah, airborne thrills.
    So. Cal.was paradise on earth before the FUCKING, SATANIC, COMMIES strangled it to death!
    …and I hope when I get old I don’t sit around thinkin’ about it, but I probably will, yeah just sittin’ back, trying to recapture a little of the glory of, well time slips away and leaves you with nothin’ mister but boring stories of glory days, yeah they’ll pass you by, glory days, in the wink of a young girls eye, glory days…
    SOMETIMES, it sucks gettin’ old, like when theres a video of a hot Ford doing what I used to do. Well, it’s 6:30am, maybe time for an adult beverage.

  3. This reminds me of a road near my house when I grew up in rural east Tennessee. Just up the road from me, about half a mile, was a section we called “the dips”… a place where three little hills were close together, and with little else to do for entertainment, my high school chums would hit them fast and we’d feel zero-G for a few seconds and then about 2-G at the bottoms… all great fun until once we sideswiped another car coming the opposite direction and with no seatbelts and a pillar just behind the driver and me in the back seat, I hit that pillar with the left of my face. I had a rakish bruise for weeks after that, many admonishments from my parents and town nosybodies, and still have a bone protuberance just under my left eye.

    But hey, we were immortal and bullet proof back then, so it’s all good.

  4. Ah, we had a road like that in Hattiesburg: the 40th south extension. Until they got fed up with college guys launching their cars into the air (and sometimes into the trees) and re-graded the tops of the hills, this was a fun road to fly down after work.

  5. “Caught air” in a 69 Ford Galaxie 500 a few times. Not wearing one of those groovy harnesses (or a seatbelt at all), kinda got thrown up against the “ceiling”/roof of the car. Kinda uncomfortable for a little bit.
