  1. Worked in Miami for 25 years. Cuban coffee IS jet fuel (and I didn’t drink it from those little sippy cups either!).

    • Is that the special blend they used for the SR-71? I know jet fuel in general is basically kerosene with some sort of antifreeze, but I’m sure some special exotics are out there too, like the nitromethane fuelers at the drag strip.

      • JP is just refined Kerosene – which is refined Diesel Fuel.
The higher the numbers, the more “refined” and additives it has in it.
RP (Rocket Propellent) is refined Kerosene but has a specific energy content in it so the flight computer can accurately calculate fuel consumption for the necessary delta-vee.

AFAIK JP Only goes to 8, JP-8 (VERY specific for something) and RP only goes to 1. The SpaceX, ULA, Artemis, etc. use RP-1

Nitromethane is a different breed of cat used in dragsters, although NOX is more popular because it’s more stable (less dangerous to work around)!
