  1. A former runnin’ buddy of mine (R.I.P.) and I used to drive his wife crazy because we could have monosyllable conversations that would go on for like five minutes.

  2. Hell, I’ve known people for years and don’t know their names, talk to them weekly and we get by with mostly monosyllables and the occasional grunt.

  3. I’ve been to farm sales where a guy would strike up a conversion with another guy and visit for the length of the sale. Or just a short pleasant visit. Shoot, I’ve done that myself. No idea who the other guy is, but enjoyed BS’n with’em.

    • I do the same thing. great way to past the time. it does freak out the wife a bit though. but really what harm does it do ?

and talking about food or beer? that can go on for hours.

    • my dad used to say it was a lack of front porches that made problems. down south, where he was from, people had front porches and they sat there after dinner. people would come by and they would talk about what was going on with everything.
what might be problems never had a chance to be one a lot of the time because people just talked about it and fixed whatever it was.
and he didn’t live in a city. but the back hills of eastern KY.
most people would met up at the country store. a 1/2 mile down the road from the house. life was good back then.
